You need to set the ARSPD_PIN parameter = 65 for it to work

Great to know! I guess I forgot there's also I2C on the APM2.

  • Developer

The I2C digital airspeed sensors do work with APM2.

If you don't currently have an airspeed sensor, you have to turn that off in the optional hardware menu. You're seeing junk data because it's reading whatever noise is on the analog pin and interpreting whatever it sees.

You can't calibrate something that's not there and dial it in. The board is just seeing a bunch of noise.

The APM2.6 can't use the digital airspeed sensor. Just get an analog one and follow the Wiki/Manual and it'll tell you how to get it connected and set up. Then go to the airspeed tuning section of the manual and get that going as well.

  • Thanks for the responses guys! So turn off Airspeed Sensor in MP where? and I do want to know my AS indicated and have only seen the analog sensor by 3DR and  pitot tube variety. Please link me the "digital" ASs unit option.

So then...what would cause my current AS to be so way off and jumping round-aboutly. Can I manipulate the params to dial it in or is there possibly an outside interference of sorts to consider?

    Thanks again, Patrick

  • Coming from a gliding background, yes, the airspeed sensor is almost essential in a plane.

Secondly, APM 2.x and all it's clones uses the analogue sensor.

As does the old APM 1.x, yes, I still fly those !

  • Are you certain the digital airspeed sensor works with the APM?  I thought that was Pixhawk and above..

  • Developer

Hi Patrick.  An Airspeed Sensor is a good idea as without it the APM is "estimating" the airspeed from the other sensors.  Make sure you get a digital one though.

    Thanks.  Grant

If you don't have an airspeed sensor, you can't calibrate it. Just turn off the airspeed sensor option in MP and those readings and warnings will go away.

For the best performance, it's good to have an airspeed sensor but you can get by without one as well.

  • Hi all!

Patrick in California here!  I am a new APM2.6 user and have set it up in one of my creations. As of now I use 3 flight modes, which all work well, to get to know her better. They are, Manual, Stabilize, and RTL.

Hardware is; PM, MinumOSD, APM2.6 with external uBlox Neo GPS plus compass, and 915ghz 3DR telemetry. All controlled by FrSky DHT hack in an Airtronics RDS8000 radio.

    Point is here...I like!

So I am tuning her up and have run into the age old question of, to buy an airspeed sensor or, not to buy an airspeed sensor. Currently airspeed is all over the place in the HUD and with WARNINGS of STALL! all the time with no clue how to calibrate it in. Some just buy a AS sensor and pitot tube and figure it out. But I have come across The MatrixPilot stuff and am intrigued.

Question is here...what to do? Does the MatrixPilot just download to the APM and is ready to use?

Thanks for being there guys, Patrick

Cruise speed

Hi,I want to adjust cruise speed. At default settings I have a ground speed of about 42km/h (without airspeed sensor), and I think the optimal speed should be lower. In the mission planner I have value "Cruise speed", default 12m/s. I updated it to 9.5, but don't see any change in actual cruise speed. How to set cruise speed? Are these different settings with RTL speed? For RTL I prefer keep it as is - less efficient, but more reliable. Is it possible to adjust cruise speed during flight, providing…

Long distance LiPo

I'm currently building a Talon (v3), mainly waiting for parts. While looking for high capacity batteries I found out two things; There are a lot of brands, and prices are still steep in the high-cap regions.I've also seen a few people on the Tube using 18650 cells, but none of those explain why.Does anyone here have experience with these custom 18650 packs? And which 'cheap' brands of standard 5~12A 4S seem to work best?I'm going to use an Emax GT3526 710KV swinging a 13x6.5 prop, which should…

Quad plane pitch problem

Hi I have been setting up 2 quad planes, pretty standard setups...flying wing with 4 vtol motors and a rear mounted pusher motor. Both builds wich are on different firmware versions have reversed pitch in quad mode but correct pitch and pitch stabilisation in plane mode. I cannot for the life of me find a parameter related solely to quad pitch reversal. Is there anyone out there that can help with this? Thanks.

PreArm Check Error : Gyros inconsistent

Hi guys, I have a Pixhawk from Radiolink and always in every first attempt of armed I get the error "PreArm: Gyro Inconsistent".The most strange thing is that i'm using only the external gyro+compass. i disabled the internal to avoid this issue. Also- I tried to recalibrate the gyros at least 5 times.- I changed the firmware version from the latest to the 3.8.53 because i have a friend with the same board and he does not have issues. But i have the same behaviorIf i disconnect the battery and…
