I have been using kk2.1 boards upgraded with stevis 1.9 firmware. The highest motor I have used is 800 kv with 30 amp simonk flashed firmware.I have created new styles of power distribution boards for each one of the designs. Each of the designs are created to make repairs and replacement of parts fast and easy.As to my flying skills, I am still a novice. I can make a circle, and some nose in. but I am not a racer, or fpv flier by any means. I would like to get my designs into the next level…
Read more…After a coupla years of thought and compromises and decisions on how to make a rigid small CNC machine this is what I've come up with.It will be cast solid aluminum which is the only real solution for the rigidity issue. If you could do it in cast iron it would be perfect. However this seems to me to be the best compromise after a lot of thought and trials. This is a moving table design not a moving gantry design. We plan to make the casting sometime after the 6th of January when I have help…

Read more…We just got started on a foundry for casting aluminum parts. I can not find anything worthy made from extruded stock in aluminum so we have to make a casting for the CNC machine. I'll be making the casting for whoever wants one by the time we finish this project. Here's some photos of the ground work being done. Over a ton of sand for the foundation. 500# of Sugar Sand #85 mesh for making the green sand and #100 of Bentonite Clay. 70# of Fireclay 4 cubic feet of Perlite and some Diatomatious…

The fabrication of parts for my Momus Design CNC project continues.
It is nice to get validation that the machine is a good idea for our application.
HERE is a post over on cnczone by a multirotor builder/flyer praising his Momus (he was asking about hot motors). He cuts aluminum and the typical laminate materials.

I have built 3... two of the 2006 version and one of the Hybrid found here: http://www.joescnc.com/
you also want to look here as there are tons of information found here:
http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy-cnc_router_table_machines/
Several very capable DIY machines.
I would highly recommend a rack and pinion setup for any future design. Lead screw designs tend to complicate things.
I have posted a few pics of my machine in my gallery
Hi John, Could you share the information about your CNC machine please? For example, from where did you get the plans or did you do the plan yourself?
Thanks,
Ruwan.
Recently found this forum. I have built 3 cnc machines over the last 5 years. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I am currently running a DIY 4 ft. x 4 ft bed with stepper motors driven by Geco drives and a mini-i/o breakout board. This allows up to 4 axis / board and the ability to turn on/off the router and dust collection through G-Code and the software controller interface.
I use Mach 3 as the controller and typically use V-Care Pro and Cut 3D as the CAM.
Machine cuts anywhere between 100 and 500 ipm and can rapid up to 800 ipm.
Sorry i am off topic, because of the news that Monroe has left is too bad. Am i right in saying the reason is because of some people trolling? We all know who. That is a great shame.I loved his enthusiasm on this forum/site.Could you pass on the message to him that he is a good person and that the internet is full of bravado's behind the screen that love the fact they can wind people up like that.
Thanks Ellison, that is great news.
Although Monroe is not longer on the forum, I an communicating via email with him. He tells me that he is still working on the project, and is about to build the platform.
I was not aware that Monroe left, too bad. I've been swamped with work but am still proceeding with building the UHU servo boards I purchased.
As I have said previously, the motor drive electronics are really the minor part of the machine and cannot compensate for a poor or marginal mechanical design.
Electronics change constantly. There are no 'new' ideas regarding mechanical layout of a mill/router, just variations of proven machines with bettter materials and precision.

Everyone with the expertise could contribute to this project. I can coordinate where needed, as normal. We do need someone with the mechanical expertise now that Monroe has left the forum.
Seems, Monroe couldn't contribute for this. Will there be someone else to drive this project now?
