Becoming a Documentation Editor!

Welcome! Documentation editors play a key role in the DIY Drones community. Our ongoing discussions and efforts for the Ardupilot.com sites can be found here at the APM Wiki Editors Discussion Group. The best way to get involved in documentation is to pay the Editors Discuss group a visit, request to join the group, and start participating!

If you'd like edit permission on the Ardupilot.com manual sites, to fix or add something, please join the group above. We'll send you an introductory email with information about how to get started editing the APM Wikis. 

This group here on DIY Drones has mostly just an organization role; it's a way for people who would like to join the documentation team to register their interest, and to show them the correct steps in getting started.

    This page gives you access to everywhere.

    Click on the Developer item in the menu bar to go to the Developer site

    and click on the Platforms item to select one of the main wikis.

    FYI as long as an image is in any one of the five xxxx.ardupilot.com/wiki/ sites it is OK to not relink them. It is only for external images and especially the ones on the old Google wiki site that need to be copied in and relinked.

    Also just to clarify, common pages can only be successfully updated on the "dev" site since they are automatically overwritten on the other sites. And there is a (generally short) delay before a common page is actually copied to the other sites (the common pages or their edits may not show up right away on the other sites)

    I have installed the new current common version of atmega32u2 programming into the developer wiki here and it is in each of the 3 main wikis and is in their TOCs as well.

    One last question:

    How does one get to the "Developer's" wiki from the real world? (when not logged into Wordpress wiki)    Or, how "will" one get there as this effort progresses.  I can not find a link anywhere that gets to a table of contents that might include the common page referred to in the last post ....

    I found my problem   I updated the page at http://dev.ardupilot.com/wiki/atmega32u2-ppm-encoder/   then I went to http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/atmega32u2-ppm-encoder/  and did not see the changes.  DUH!  There are two pages.

    So,  Yes that one needs to be common and the links fixed to link to one wiki page from developer's and/or from arducopter (Plane, Rover?) wiki(s).

    I found a link in the "Documentation" page from the ardupilot manual.

    http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/documentation/  (not the edited version)

    Answer to your question:   The page would be used by users of Arducopter, ArduPlane and Rover as well as developer's because it refers to updating the PPM firmware on the Ardupilot APM 2.5  or the older Ardupilot 1.0 or 2.0.

    I will not attempt to try to do any more edits on the page until it is made common by someone else and placed in the menu's / contents as appropriate.

    I suppose Gary would be the one to do that.

    Hi Dennis,

    FYI: put the Mission Planner Compile section in here: http://dev.ardupilot.com/

    Go to the dashboard and then select wiki then add new.

    I have just made the Atmega Encoder page common and it will now be in all 3 of the main Wikis as well.

    The reason I hadn't is that it still had a few bad links which I have now fixed.

    I will now go install the new common PPM encoder page in the TOC for the other wikis as well (at least when it shows up I will).

    Thanks for working on the Mission Planner Load Edit and Compile thing that will be invaluable to us all.

    Please let me know when you have installed it.

    OK, developer's manual for Compiling Mission Planner. 

    Menu links and TOC links later.... as suggested.

    And, Alex...    I have the update button,  and it finally worked with one edit but the other ("Atmega32U2 (PPM encoder)" edit did not take when I clicked Update.  I will try again. Sorry for the learning curve.

    Finally a suggestion "Atmega32U2 (PPM encoder)" should it not be a common page and.. should it not have a link in the Arduplane, Copter and Rover contents?

    No need to answer me on that question - If appropriate I leave to admin.  The reason I was interested in that page is because I had to update my PPM in the APM 2.5 to work with my radio (shipped version caused problems) so am familiar with the process. (current wiki page needs update to APM 2.5)
