Adding extra functions to MinimOSD

I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.

At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.

after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D

They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.

They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!

Thank you Bough! :)

By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.

Here it is in action:

Added:

- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)

- Airspeed

- Home alt

- Battery Percent

- Battery used mah

- Current Draw

- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)

- OSD Menu

- Variometer

- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.

- OSD on/off

- Switchable secound screen

- WP distance

- WP heading

- Crosstrack error

- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI

- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel

- OSD Brightness

- HAM Call Sign

- After flight summary

- Trip distance

- Temperature

- Smoothened horizon

- Real heading

- RSSI

- Vertical speed

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.

Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning,  can be set in new Config Tool.

We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.

Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)

The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link

This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link

The latest stable version is: 2.2

The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800

Username: MinimOSD_Extra

Password: Top_Secret

CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)

We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)

Enjoy

  • The only thing I don't see on the functions list is RSSI. I was wondering if it is possible to add it, like this guy did http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/display-rssi-with-arducam-osd.

I have another question: how is the battery percent calculated? Is it the mAh reading from the current sensor?

  • Hello Gabor,

I also had some issues with other firmwares after update, either I had the charset error or it couldn't sense the MAVLink heartbeats .. now with your firmware is working great :)

But :) .. I'm not able to access the menu, in your video you say waith for APM to boot up, and then switch the mode ACRO - STAB - ACRO .. this is how I did it but the menu is not showing up.

Should I move another stick while changing modes ?  I tried to change the mode using different speeds:  fast (on the OSD the mode did not change) and slow (after moving the pot from acro to stab and seen the mode changed on the screen I immediately , after half a second, I moved it back to acro )

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the last version, wind direction works just fine now.

however, after a boot, Overspeed warning is constantly on.
(usually set to 85Km/h , stall at 25km/h)

So after flying with overspeed, I landed, - pressed reset on minimOSD , entered config - then exited config, at took off.

no more overspeed warning for the rest of the flight,

After connecting a new battery pack, - it's back overspeed - until configured.

    - The numbers I see are saved, it just don't seem they are being "used" until i visit config.

    - a bug ?

  • At the moment my new APM2 incl minimosd is airborne and i tune pids. When this is done i put the cam&vidTX on it. My "groundstation" just consists of fs dominator & cloveleave antenna - i want to keep it small and simple so no groundrecorder. OSD function tested so far with TV :). The vario idea seems to be good for gliders. I am not a technician but a complete audio shield seems to be overkill. A simple sinus generator (perhaps using the devided onboard oscillator signal??) hooked to a free arduinopin would do the job. Who could do a circut layout?

    So long

  • Hi Gábor,

Do you plan to add sound for variometer?

  • @Gábor

Just a little word of big THANK YOU!

After having trouble with the orig 1.9 (Charset/Reset Bug) i installed your (now older) version 1.28.1 and it works like a charm on my mimosd (original, not a clone)/APM2 combo on my quadrocopter setup. A real OSD/FPV/maiden has still to be done (because i transit my apm2/osd combo from my gaui 330 testplatform to a much better one). BTW for the MWII guys (i am one of them also, i fly mwii, naza and now apm2) you can flash rushduino FW on mimosd with small adjustments due to different arduino pin assignments there is a thread in my favourite german forum going on: http://fpv-community.de/showthread.php?10404-Minim-OSD-und-MultiWii...

Perhaps you can babelfish it. I didn't try it my self, because i don't need it but people there are happy that it is working great. So mimosd seems to work in both worlds.

    So long

    Rob

    (P.s.: sorry for my kraut-english)

  • Hi Gabor

ok I downloaded 1.28.1 and installed it and the charset. Did also a configuration for my needs.

Everything works fine. I am on PAL so I used the PAL Version.

I will hopefully do some testflights soon. I am not sure though if I can make a video because I will fly with my goggles and I dont have the equipment to record a video...

    greetings knut

  • Hi Gabor,

I've been comparing the chipsets between the MinimOSD for APM and the Rushduino OSD for MultiWii and I'm starting to wonder if the code for Rushduino would run ok on the MinimOSD. It does not look like there would be enough of a hardware difference to cause an issue. The only reason I ask is that the MinimOSD is cheaper and more compact and I alternate between APM and MultiWii controllers. If you don't think it would work are there any plans for some code to read the MultiWii protocol as well?

    Thanks,

    John
  • Hi all

I would like to jump in with some flight testing, if this is of any sense to you. If yes, please give me an advice, which version I should use.

I use an APM1 with ArduPlane and my next flight will be udring the weekend, if the weather ...:)

    knut
