I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.
At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.
after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D
They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.
They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!
Thank you Bough! :)
By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.
Here it is in action:
Added:
- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)
- Airspeed
- Home alt
- Battery Percent
- Battery used mah

- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)
- OSD Menu

- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.
- OSD on/off
- Switchable secound screen
- WP distance
- WP heading
- Crosstrack error

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.
Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning, can be set in new Config Tool.
We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.
Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)
The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link
This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link
The latest stable version is: 2.2
The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800
Username: MinimOSD_Extra
Password: Top_Secret
CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)
We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)
Enjoy

Hey Gabor,
Thanks for clarifying those points. I never thought about using the range above 1700 for something other than switching to a blank screen. Or should I say in addition to switching to a blank screen? That's a good use of limited resources!
I think you should open a new thread and start a discussion on what would make the next generation of OSD better. If you started it and we developed a lot of activity with some solid data points showing what the community wants from their OSD, perhaps someone will either pick up the torch and develop the hardware on their own, or perhaps we can get 3DR's attention and get a much needed refresh on the MinimOSD?
Who developed the original hardware anyway, anybody know?

Hello Nathaniel,
I think Sandro Benigno did.
On next genaration OSD? I also have ideas. :D
Like i was planning to make my own version even on MinimOSD by removing all things i have never used and add features i have always wanted like mah needed to fly home calculating with wind height etc.
Also Miguels ILS code is still in commented out :(
A my frinds plane radar etc...
But this is just 3 of the many ideas we had and could not make because of space and graphical capabilities of MinimOSD.
We also made plans for a graphical OSD with Miguel.
Will see what happens.
Gábor
Gabor and others,
Not sure if you saw this already?
Just an idea of some OSD, maybe something could be used from it for the future version of Minim OSD?

I did that too, doubles for my naza and apm :) without flashing
due to low memory the next step I think is a teensy shield or stm32 based solution

ANy vids of this in action hooked up to a Naza ?
just the prior prototype board so far on video
here's a sample of 1orgars board working I sent him
Please consider using crowd funding like Indigogo or Kickstarter. Many of us would be happy and excited to participate in the creation of a new Mavlink OSD. You have proven yourself to this community, and we would support you. This should be for profit. You deserve to earn enough to at least retire your APM 1.0 and buy a Pixhawk. There are many thousands of APM users and more every day. There is certainly a good deal of money to be made selling a new graphical OSD. It should have beautiful graphics like the Range Video RVOSD. How have we made it from APM 1 to the Pixhawk, and still no improvement to the $15 MinimOSD?!
I'd be in for the crowd funding.
I find it interesting that nearly all OSDs on the market are based on the 7456 (APM, iOSD, ezosd etc).
+1 on either indigogo or kickstarter!
