Naturally, I thought heli mode but this was wrong. In heli mode, both channel 3 (throtle) moves together with channel 6 (collective). I thought it was causing problems with my configuration, maybe not, but I changed the Futaba 7c to acro mode (which means airplane - not helicopter - in Futaba language) and then that part of the puzzle started working.
I use the 7th channel for the hover setting switch - this is the momentary on switch you flip briefly while in a stable hover to tell the copter what power setting to use for stable hover.
Channel six is not used yet on my transmitter.
So 7 channels is good, you would want more channels for video camera, etc. but I think clever people have got a round this somehow.
Airplane "ACRO" mode
10% EXPO on ALE & ELEV ch's Makes it not as touchy.
U only need 6 ch's but if you have 7 get 7 trust me you'll find something to do with it. If you Plug Tx battery in backwards all you have to do is take it apart and swap out the fuse. It will also blow the fuse if you plug the wrong charger in to it as well. If you need more power out of the Tx go to the DIY-Drones store and pick up an 2.4 ghz AMP $46. If the 7ch Rx uses a satilite reciever use it at all times with the Rx. When bying HK Rx read latest reviews. I almost bought some Rx's that didn't hold a BIND. Great Radio..
I am using the DX7 with a 6 ch receiver.
I have it setup in Acro mode with no other special setups. Of course you may need to reverse a couple of channels to get everything working correctley, but that goes with any radio.
So far 6 channels is all I have needed. My Gear switch is used for Normal flight (off) and Alt hold (on) and my flap switch is used for Gps position hold and position and alt hold.
