Jim Phoenix commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Is the GPS system endangered in the US?
"@Michael - If anyone can do it, Honeywell/Ratheon can! I use their products extensively on my old boat.
I have a Raytheon GPS/radar chartplotter integrated into my VHF com using a nmea string, soon I'll have the marine version of ADS-B (AIS). The…"

Jim Phoenix commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Is the GPS system endangered in the US?
"I'm thinking there's a big opportunity here for people with electronics skills to fix Falcone's problems - and many more to come as we squeeze the spectrum - and maybe expand it out of the radio bands and into the light bands? I know guys who are…"

Jim Phoenix commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Is the GPS system endangered in the US?
"I was working in Europe when FM immunity became a rule that we were required to comply with to protect aircraft VHF radios from FM signal creep (for lack of a better technical description). Then later, we went to .25mHz channel spacing (in the US as…"

Jim Phoenix replied to Julie Macfarlane's discussion APM Planner Gauges
"The vertical tape on the right is altitude. The bar on the left is ground speed, (maybe airspeed - not sure which) but groundspeed is the speed that is aurally announced, so I presume the tape is groundspeed.

The green bar that moves up and down…"

Jim Phoenix commented on Jason Short's blog post Arducopter Beta 2.0.38
"In the middle of all the alt hold issues, had a magnetometer failure, removed it, cleaned it up and re-installed and now its working fine. The key to this APM stuff is reading all of the manuals, posts, blogs and other data and then trying stuff…"

Jim Phoenix commented on Jason Short's blog post Arducopter Beta 2.0.38
"Yup, mounted my sonar on an arm last week, didn't see improvement - but I've not had sonar problems before loading 2.0.037. Haven't done the shielded wire yet. I'm seeing funny noise on the baro in test, sonar looks very steady, but baro is very…"

Jim Phoenix commented on Jason Short's blog post Arducopter Beta 2.0.38
"Right, your videos show excellent performance, I'm seeing really good response in loiter with no overshoots, just gotta sort the alt hold, I'm convinced it's something in my configuration, maybe a sense problem, gonna swap imu boards and fly it…"

Jim Phoenix commented on Jason Short's blog post Arducopter Beta 2.0.38
"2.0.38 working nicely for me, big improvement in loiter, never seen it so good on my machine. Flew it 4 batteries, about 45 minutes so far, pods seem real good, no adjustents at this point. Gotta figure out why my baro hold is noisy, I think it's…"

Jim Phoenix replied to MaxCrash's discussion Mag Compass HMC 5883L Heading not correctly displayed with 2.0.37 & planner 1.0.45
"I have the same with two different APM units after loading 2.0.37. Never had a yaw or mag problem before, now the compass just hovers close to north as if the mag is not installed or not enabled, I've tried everything I can think of, but no luck."

Jim Phoenix replied to Steve Castano's discussion Bad motor? (again) Bad ESC maybe?
"Try this: Remove the props(!), arm the motors and give it just a bit of throttle, the "bad" motor will jump back and forth, try moving the bullet connectors around for that motor, see if the motor starts to run OK - if that happens, solder your…"

Jim Phoenix replied to Jim Phoenix's discussion Mode switching inop in HIL sim
"I reset the eeprom, tried again, but switching my mode switch has no effect. Using the CLI modes/setup command I can change only pos 0 to whatever mode I wish, however moving the switch to the center (3) or (5) position does not create a response…"
