Greetings.
I have a quad equipped with RcTimer 5010 360KV motors and 16 inch props, running on 4S LiPo. Nice and steady platform for FPV and amateur video, flew it all spring and summer with a chinese Rabbit FC. On a 6 Ah pack it goes 18 minutes with FPV Tx or 22 min. without. So I figured it'll be a nice platform for some droning around on scripted missions.
Problem is, I'm having trouble tuning the APM2 for basic flight. I've emptied 6 packs trying to eliminate the wobble to no avail. So maybe I'm missing something, and there's someone around with a similar setup to offer a hint or two.
Cheers,
Para.

*Rc timers 5010 and 17x5.5
*Esc turnigy plush 12 from hk
*4s4p 18650b inside arms (2cm alum tubes 0.5mm thick 210gr 750m2m)
IM WORRIED BY THE TUNNING pids to achieve steady flight
Hi,
i build a quad similar to yours, (4s, 470kv, 17*5.5 prop, esc 30A), and i am quite in trouble with pid tunning.
did you finally get something correct?
could you share yours?
thx
Para,
I am working with a similar airframe with low Kv motors and large props. I am also having problems tuning and I was wondering if you have tried out Jason's recommended PIDs? I have only lowered Rate_P; it seemed like the performance was worse, but maybe I will try raising it to .2. I lowered stab_P from 4.5 to 4 and that helped, but I have not gone down as low as 2.5. Thanks!
That's pretty interesting. I've certainly never flown anything close to these specs. Perhaps the Flash sim can help you out. http://jasonshort.com
I just ran it and I believe your best gains would be something like this:
Stab_P = 2.5 (Slower desired rotation rate)
Rate_P = .2 (a little higher output to achieve said rate)
Rate_D = .008

I am putting together a large Hexa as well, OS motors and ESC's, 5Kg with 13Ah batteries APM2.5, and would be interested in any answers.
The current rebuilt JDrones Hexa, at 3kg now, exhibits some wobbles I can't seem to tune out in auto mode as well.
