I have successfully built an API that will work with Ipad/ Iphone and will be able to port it to Android. This app can create missions, follow live mavlink .9 (Still working on 1.0) data with telemetry data. Cool thing is that it is a cheap cable to make. I want to know how many people would be interested in this App and the cable. There will be two versions one for jail broke devices that will have a few extras and for regular IOS and Droid OS. If there enough buzz I will give a lucky few in couple weeks a free beta pass through iTunes to be able to test and use for flight. What the app does is that it send a mavlink message to the xbee or 3d radio back and forth so you be able to fly and track using your tablet or phone.

    I'm a iOS developer with a number of apps on the appstore.

    The issue with this is that Apple won't allow iOS developers to access Bluetooth serial unless you get into the MFI (Made for iPod) program.  I tried, and got so much red tape I gave up, they wanted lots of rubbish including details of the Bluetooth/serial converter etc which is obviously aimed a hardware manufacturers, even though I just wanted to be able to write apps that would talk over bluetooth/serial for projects just like this.

    The way to get around this would be to use WiFi to Serial, as under iOS it is quite easy to communicate over WiFi.

    Unfortunately I've go too much work on my plate to help with this project.

  • Definitely Interested. I have a 2.4Ghz Xbee pro telemetry on a 3DR Quad. I have a IPAD1 (Non jailbreaked) and  a Iphone 3GS (Jailbreaked) available for testing.

  • At this time cable designs are with apple so have to wait on that. However, for no jailbroken devices I am working on a bluetooth module that you can put your radio in. It will run normal buad rate so there will be no lag with the HUD. I probley be testing the connections with the SparkFun bluetooth modules with freq 2.52 or with less noise.

  • I really like this idea since you don't have to carry a laptop around.  I have a couple of questions though.

    -Compatibility:  What versions of iOS/Android will this be able to be used on?  Will it support legacy os like froyo?

    -Hardware:  What would we need to get to get this started?  I saw the pic above but what specifically would be need to start this.

    Good luck with this project.  This is something I would definitly want to have with my bird.

    I haven't read through all the pages of comments but is this related to the work that was being done to make an HTML5 based WiFi ground station so you could do the same with any device? There's nothing wrong with either approach and having options is nice but I was just curious.

  • Status update the User interface with the hud and alt indicators with live map feed is almost done. Still working on some compiling bugs for ISO and android. Since this app will use same basic code but each API needs to be added to the code. The app will auto detect if the program is IOS or android. So it will be one app that works on both platforms.
