  • I flew it yesterday and it's solid state. 25 mph winds off of a roof with power lines everywhere. Not a hitch. I predict over 20 mins of flight on a mapping/GPS mission Very consumer friendly. Zero learning curve for you guys. It's a monster!

  • I guess the jury is still out on how well the solo is doing....hanvt heard back from anybody. Still waiting to pull the trigger....

  • So yay or nay on a new solo??Your thoughts...opinions? Rate from one to ten??

  • Hi all:

Has anyone seen a Teardown video of a 3DR Solo yet?

also curious how to get  regular PWM gimbal working as if it was the OEM one.

  • I should of stated that the second battery is free.

  • RE: Free battery. I didn't order with a gimbal but received a 'free' battery anyway from the folks at B&H Photo. I suspect the 'free' battery is a matter of semantics as it won't run without the smart battery. The battery was packaged intimately with the Solo with a neoprene bumper cut to fit the connector end to keep it in place during shipment, I would wager that a Solo doesn't ship without a battery.

Additional batteries have been on back order from 3DR for weeks. Also, only able to order 'black' propellers from 3DR web store as there are no 'silver' prop listed. Or possibly I haven't found them yet.

  • Downloaded the Solo app and finished ground school.

    Controller observations from unboxing.

    • Sticks shipped with knobs screwed in, turned out  and set lock to suit my hands.
    • Noticed the left stick (Mode 2) throttle is spring return to neutral (mid-range) throttle. Solo app flight school confirms auto takeoff to 6-8 foot altitude.

Time to leave the office and go flying.

  • I found the answer to my own question. It looks like any solo ordered before July 15th (here is Canada anyway) will receive a free battery as delayed gimbal compensation.

I think this is a pretty sweet deal. I can handle a month of rigid mount flying.

    Thanks 3DR!

  • My unboxing slide show video on YouTube, sans commentary, music, and my face. No Solo app so a flight report will have to wait. Batteries charged and ready to fly.

  • So it's real!

Thanks, Dr. Pete. Looking forward to some videos.

4K Action Camera Wifi WiMiUS L3 2.45'' LCD Touch Screen $42 off

There is a lot to like about the WiMius L3 16MP 4K Action Cam as it's undoubtedly a worthy competitor to the GoPro at a sharp fraction of the price. It's simply amazing what they were able to do in such a tight package. It does 4k video , 60fps 1080p video, has a webcam mode which would be used on youtube if necessary, comes with a variety of different accessories like the go pro which includes the signature case and many many other cool things as well. I use a program called Bandicam I was…

WiMiUS L2 4K is an impressive affordable action camera [Review]

There are lots of affordable action cameras on the market, but not many of those deserve your attention. In their attempt to compete with upmarket products, vendors tend to focus more on specs rather than the user experience, delivering action cameras that look great on paper but do not work as well as you might expect in real life. That was the case with WiMiUS' L1, which did not live up to my expectations despite having solid components. However, with the new L2, things should be different.…

Solo spare propellers no where to buy!

Hi all, What is the situation with 3DR Solo drone spare parts? I am in the UK and can not find propellers to buy anywhere. There are plenty of drones available (super discounted) but none of the shops have props in stock. Can anyone advise where I should order them from? ThanksMantas
