"Steven,
For an optical system, I think the ability to track a subject left/right and up/down isn't as tough as recognizing if subject's distance changes. I am becoming more of a skeptic of their claims.

It looks like these guys are on the verge of a great new product, which is compatible with ArduCopter-based vehicles such as the PocketDrone and the 3DR platforms such as Iris. My guess is they are using image processing to track the subject and…
"I think there will be a growing demand for VTOL drones with fixed wings for greater efficiency.
I like the concept of a tail-sitter plane combined with a quad-rotor. This type of air frame would have the fewest moving parts. Most drones only carry…"
"V01d,
Here are my guesses:The scene at 0:36 is from the hills above the Cal Bears stadium in Berkley, looking down Strawberry Canyon. At 1:02, the scene is from the pacific coast north and west of the Golden Gate bridge, possibly over looking Bonita…"
"@ Jonathan, It would be great to connect! I am open to collaboration and look forward to meeting soon.
@ Terrence, You are correct, synchronization is the key. The prototype uses a timer on the emitter and on the sensor, one of several ways that…"
"Heino,
Wow, you have done some impressive work setting up your copter and ground station. Did you add MAVlink functionality to the Arduino Pro Mini on-board your copter? Most of the MAVlink/Arduino applications that I have seen are for use in ground…"
"@ Daniel, Thanks for the encouragement. I am leaning toward sending joystick commands. Glad to know that I'm not the only one struggling with figuring out MAVlink.
@ Jack, Is the issue of propeller noise a problem with ground sensing US range…"
Here is an attempt at an ultrasonic sensor system for tracking an emitter’s relative distance and angle so that an autonomous quad-copter can follow a subject.Conceptual Image, nominal spacing around 20 feet ConceptThe system works by recognizing…
