""This time it's internal video recording resolution being limited to 1080p."
Well, that's disappointing then for $700. I was thinking it may have been a better GoPro substitute for my ROV camera."
"All,
After some troubleshooting with SkyDrone, my Pixhawk 2.1 is connected to my GCS through the 4G connection. It eats up around 1MB of data every 5 minutes or so, which is quite respectable.
I'll see how it does when I refit my boat in a few weeks."
"Connected and video is up and running on my data plan. No issues there other than opening up the specified port in my firewall. Video has great speed, it just eats up around 1MB of data every second which is a bit high for me. I'll connect it to my…"
"I ended up ordering one so hopefully I can report how it is in a few days. Yes, I know full well what the hardware is and that it's COTS. The problem that I've had is that I've been looking and asking for a 4G connection for months and there are…"
"Did some more work on the NAV box over the past couple days. At least I'm up to the point where I can connect to it via my computer or tablet.
Next up will be getting power and signal to the thrusters and then mounting the box."
"@bigkahuna I was thinking of using those nylon cable glands too. Those would be easier to use if I need to disconnect the cable for whatever reason. I also have some BR cable penetrators.
@David Think something like these cable holders would work…"
"Thrusters mounted. I used two ends of an HDPE cutting board and trimmed to fit and then glued them to the hull with marine epoxy. Not the most elegant solution, but they aren't going anywhere and I've maintained hull integrity. Everything will be…"
"@David - Yes, completely valid concern. I was planning on mounting the thrusters about 2/3rds of the way back from the bow and as far apart as possible. What would be your thoughts on the below picture? It won't need to be super maneuverable because…"
"Thanks for the support and encouragement!
@David - Thanks for the info and sea trials. I'm not building this one for speed, more for torque, so good to know about the thrusters. I've had good experiences with my T-100's in my ROV so far. I'll have…"
After the successful completion of my Mid-Sized Observation Class OpenROV, it's time to move on to other projects. The AUV project is still a ways as we work on some of the sensors required, namely an altimeter and a better Inertial Navigation…
"Tom,
Looks good so far! I know it's a bit late in the game with the tether connection already being epoxied in place, but have you considered using wet-connectors for a quick disconnect for the tether?
I have had great success using them on my…"
"@Eddie,
Love your projects! I can't make it out from the photo, but what is that make and model of the catamaran boat? It looks perfect for putting all sorts of gear in there!
Kevin"
