About Me:

I am a standards captain at Avantair flying the Piaggio Avanti for a living. My father was a Navy aircraft mechanic, so I have been around airplanes a good portion of my life. I was born and raised in San Jose.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am very interested in an aerial photography platform. I have been following the Arducopter progress and it looks like it will be an ideal candidate for many aerial photography needs.

Mike Lombardi commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Announcing ArduCopter, the merger of the ArduPilot and AeroQuad projects!
"Your seriously complaining about an $8 aluminum arm? It will cost almost that much in gas money to drive to the hardware store and back not to mention the time involved in making one."

Mike Lombardi commented on Tj Bordelon's blog post Landing patterns and reverse thrust!
"Sounds like a lot of fun doing these combat approaches! Maybe you could program the autopilot to reduce the reverse in proportion to the elevator command or maybe use less reverse for a longer time to keep control?"

Mike Lombardi commented on Tj Bordelon's blog post Landing patterns and reverse thrust!
"I think it's fine to use reverse thrust if you have to, but I can tell you from my experience flying the full scale Piaggio Avanti (which is a pusher prop like the easy star), reverse thrust significantly decreases stability due to the disturbed…"

Mike Lombardi commented on Tj Bordelon's blog post Landing patterns and reverse thrust!
"You should be able to trim the airplane's pitch attitude to maintain your Vref speed (approach and touchdown speed) in level flight. I would fly at a safe altitude and slowly reduce the power while trimming the elevator to maintain level flight.…"

Mike Lombardi replied to Keegan's discussion This is the Best FPV System for Ardupilot
"I just order all the items you listed. Thanks for doing the research Keegan. I ended up going with this camera instead because if you spend over $200 at bevrc, you get free shipping (which would have been $25)."
