About Me:

I am a retired computer system design analyst. I have a degree in math and physics and enjoy geocaching, walking, gardening, RC helicopters, and programming home-made robots. Sometimes my imagination is greater than either my skill set or my budget, and often both.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I started in RC with helicopters and moved towards airplanes. I have built 6 airplanes in the past 2 years and enjoy flying them at 2 local AMA club fields. I then built a TriCopter with a KK2 board, and a quad with a CC3D board. I am now having a ball and dabbling in FPV. I am currently building an H copter (I orientation actually) and am installing an APM board.

Steve Legge commented on Hugues's blog post Pixhawk suspended FPV quadcopter - Mark II - build log
"This is one of the most detailed build logs I have ever seen.  Good pictures and notations.  The quad is sure to be super strong.  Have you measured the final weight?   I have 2 small concerns:  your proposed battery location may not allow a center…"

Steve Legge replied to Larry Grimm's discussion APM 2.5 Arducopter is awesome Go for it! Its not as hard as it looks.
"Ditto on the raves for the APM.  I also was hesitant to upgrade from KK2 and CC3D but no longer.  My H-Quad flies perfectly with the default tuning."

Steve Legge replied to mat green's discussion problems with turnigy plush esc.s and apm
"I use stock Turnigy Plush 30A on my H-Quad (SunnySky2212 980Kv) without any issues, except a little flutter when descending.  First I programmed them with a card to Ni-xx so they would not cut off.  Then I used the calibrate all at once directions…"

Steve Legge replied to Donald Wallace's discussion Position of multiple antennas and gps?
"My GPS is higher than anything else.  The Rx and satellite Rx have antennas on each side. The antennas for the 5.8Ghz video transmitter and 915Mhz telemetry module are on the bottom.  So far, I can see no interference between the components.  A…"

I have experience with the KK2 and the CC3D but am new to the APM 2.5 which has many more features and capabilities.  I have built a new H copter and installed the APM 2.5 board.  I was wondering if there is any special power up sequence with the…
