The Sun commented on Chris Anderson's blog post What we're doing at our sister site, DIY Robocars (crazy fast autonomous car racing)
"@Andreas

Do you mean you are not aware of the SLAM algorithms or the perception ones? The SLAM ones are many and easy to find.

On the perception side things tend to be deep learning based and are not publicly available. That being said they…"

There are tons of SLAM algorithms that exist today that can easily solve the problem of localization to a degree that is perfectly acceptable for driving. LSD slam comes to mind as one that is very efficient.

Perception is also a problem…"

The Sun replied to Alex Maltais's discussion Skywalker X8 wing endurance VS the c-astral wing
"At these Re numbers really the only thing that is going to matter is your propulsion system efficiency, and whether or not the airframe can support the load structurally. With the same propulsion system, wingspan and structural capacity the two…"

"We should definitely name it something memorable and exciting!"

The Sun commented on tom hobart's blog post AWuAV 3015E the Revolutionary Open Source drone
"Actually Gary you only need three independently actuated vanes to control monocopters, of which I have built quite a few.

They work decently, in fact quite well, if you are moderately capable and can design properly in hardware and implement basic…"

The Sun commented on tom hobart's blog post AWuAV 3015E the Revolutionary Open Source drone
"Just FYI aerodynamic torque compensation has been around for a very long time (google "stator vanes").It is worth noting further that any static system can only compensate for torque at a single mass airflow rate, and that at all other points the…"

The Sun commented on Cameron Sickbert's blog post Emergency Response UAV Now on Indiegogo!
"Tail volume not necessarily to small but the boom length definitely is.  You are certainly going to have problems with the folding wings and extending tail. It's not impossible to get done but it will certainly be difficult to implement.

You can…"

The Sun replied to Duane Emerson's discussion I want to create my own drone.
"I have a lot of experience building single rotor drones. In my experience (extensive) they are by far the most difficult drones to build. Single copters are essentially inverted pendulums, and are thus very non linear in terms of control and require…"

The Sun replied to Duane Emerson's discussion I want to create my own drone.
"What's great about multirotors and quad copters specifically is that they are extremely easy to design and build. Four relatively rigid booms, I would start with some square tubing as it is the easiest to work with, four escs four motors four props…"

The Sun commented on VGR-Systems's blog post Thrust vectoring coaxial Drone Update
