About

About Me:

I'm a person with interest in all kinds of DIY projects, but particularly ones which expand to both virtual and physical worlds.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

After graduating as an embedded systems engineer I discovered UAVs as the perfect combination of childhood enthusiasm (aviation), environmentalism (if used constructively to replace bulky traditional vehicles) as well as more recently acquired knowledge and interest in software and electronics. I have a slowly advancing eternity project to construct a UAV of my own, the process of which is documented at http://lupu.fi/projects/uav/. The project is mainly a learning exercise and is thus not based on pre-existing UAV hardware or software such as ArduPilot.

Lupu replied to phellipe's discussion my first drone
"Hello! Doesn't the direction of rotation depend on the wiring? If you're using regular three-wire stepper motors, you can just swap any two wires leading to the motor and it should spin in the opposite direction...?"

Lupu commented on Denny Rowland's blog post Aerodynamic efficiency
"Looks interesting. Have you thought of enclosing the propellers in a cylinder? Operating more like a ducted fan, the propellers' thrust should, as far as I know, improve in efficiency as the enclosure limits wingtip vortices on the rotary wings…"

Lupu commented on Chris Anderson's blog post More ArduCopter GPS and Alt hold on a Hex frame
"Nice. Would you care to share the name of the performer and track playing in the background?"

Lupu commented on Roberto Navoni's blog post Multipilot32 needs a Real Time OS. Which one?
"While many of the posts here are "me too" videos of arducopter quads which are about as much DIY as Ikea furniture, I found your post both insightful and refreshing. Just curious, which functionalities of the OS do you actually need? If it's…"
