  • Actually in the process of building a bigger tri, I'll incorporate folding arms into this one, shot for the inspiration.  Motor to motor will be 80cm will definitely be more practical.

  • Nice! That doesn't look to hard since you got it down by a certain amount of turns. That's a whole lot better than I can do with my tools. I would use those booms with a folding quad design.

  • Yes certainly, it's great to see the end result.. If it's built well, it will fly well.. that's my motto with these things. Ultimately I'd like to design (using a cad prog) a quad from the ground up and have it cnc'd/laser cut too but I have not much experience in this field.

Great, will check out what you're building, I'll keep an eye out.

  • I know, you gotta love it. I love making hand-made parts whenever I can. Or at least designing them for the CNC or laser cutter. I'll have to post pics once my quad isn't an eye sore.

  • I'm uploading a vid to youtube now, showing a bit of the process.. will add link.

  • Thanks very much, every time I make these arms I think of a more automated system, yes, a cnc machine would make short work of it.. one day.  Using the milling machine one has to crank it along counting the turns.. one slip up and you have to start again.  I've built all my frames this way and every time I say to myself this is the last but, I love this hobby too much.

  • Its masterful work even so. I bet a cnc machine would make short work of that, once you line it up. Thanks for posting!

  • Hi Daniel, I use aluminium square tubing for the booms.  A milling machine is used to machine the holes accurately, it's quite labor intensive and takes time but results in a light weight and still very strong arm.  I used a spray can to spray it black.

  • I love the material you used for the booms. Did you buy them, or did you CNC them yourself?
