    Tony: I checked with the shipping dept, and they're going to send you an additional cable.

    The 6th pin on the compass connector is required when you reflash the GPS firmware. It's not required in normal operation as a GPS serial port.

    @Joseph,

    The APM2.5 6 pin port on the side works just fine with the uBlox LEA-6 6 pin port GPS only module. I believe that there is an unused wire in the 6 pin cable so the new GPS/compass module 5 wire cable goes from a 6 pin port, with one pin unused, to the APM2.5/6 5 pin port.

    @Chris: correct, if the cable fits both work. I'm using a PX4 GPS cable which has the older style 6 pin on one end and the DF13 5 pin on the other. I don't have the new GPS unit, but looking at the pictures and the eagle files, the new cable for GPS 2.0 is a DF13 5 to 6. it can been seen in the instructions http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/common-installing-3dr-ublox-gps-co...

    It's the wrong cable, but the instructions are clear

  • That is incorrect from what i know of the system. My old mediatek gps plugs into the side and the new one plugs into the 5 pin on the top.

    Hi Joe,

    Thank you for contacting 3DR Tech Support.

    Attached is a picture of the connection of the gps connection, I guess maybe you received a 6 wires cable (for old ublox) instead of the 5 wires cable.

    Could you send me a picture please?

    Best Regards,
    Rogelio N.

  • Chris, thank you for clearing that up.  What I have found is that the port on the side is a little smaller than the one on top.  I still have the problem of not having the correct cable.  I will contact Customer service shortly and I am sure that the correct cables will be shipped.  But the real issue is that items are being miss shipped.  This indicates some underlying problems in the warehouse.  This is not the first miss shipment I have received.  I am waithing on 2 mini OSD's now that were not shipped with the APM's.  I truly would like to get a good product that works and take advantage of all the features that are available.  But there appears to be an end less string of events that keep be from receiving good products.

    I have reloaded my computer software.  I bought a new computer and I bought an Hexa copter platform.  So I am doing everything I can to make this work.  What I expect is a good working kit from 3D Robotics.

    Either GPS port will work. Just plug it into the one that the your cable fits into.

    @Tony,

    I believe that both the APM2.5 and AMP2.6 have the 5 pin GPS port on the top of the case which is where the 5 pin GPS cable should be plugged into. I have an APM2.5 and the 5 pin GPS cable end plugged into the 5 pin port that is on the top of the APM and not on the side of the APM. The GPS port on the side of the APM is a 6 pin GPS port and it works fine with the 6 pin port on the GPS only module. I suspect that the 6 pin to 6 pin cable will work with the 6 pin port on the GPS/compass module and the 6 pin port on the side of the APM2.6.
