Procerus shows off their new quadcopter at AUVSI

The latest from Procerus, recently acquired by Lockheed Martin. No word on pricing, but I'm guessing in the tens of thousands of dollars.

The upside is they can do it for a living.  The downside is having to focus on the same platform as everyone else.

I made the rounds at the show, one of the manufactures even told me theirs got an "hour" flying time "with a payload" and this was on a 500 size quad.  I think the truth was out in the parking lot somewhere baking in the heat.

I had my Tricopter at the show, unfortunatly it only gets 5 minutes (with a payload) with a 6 cell 2700 mah battery.  Not only was it the only Tricopter at the show it was the only EDF.

    I was also wandering around the show and took this alternative picture of your tri which was at the CastleCreations booth.

Also in the picture is a prototype connection to the ESC that the techie guys at the booth said could provide feedback to the controller on the state of the ESCs (RPM, current draw, etc) which would be very useful in trying to deal with cases where a motor fails.

Why using edf ? Flight time is horrible, maybe it's better to duct a very large fan.

The tricopter was the only thing that I had time to get together for the show with NeuMotors installed, the motors are a special wind for the EDF for better performance at lower RPMs.  They are also working on motors for the open multicopter market including coaxial counter rotating motors similar to this one I modified and built on a Y6 platform.  I hope to see something for testing soon.

I see that Lockheed Martin is using almost exactly the same CF propeller profile that I have on my big octo. At least I did something right.. :)
