Trent@MyGeekShow USA Trip Conclusion

"Remember, MyGeekShow has always been about failure, learning from it and making progress"

3689603065?profile=originalPeople who have been following Trent's journey will be aware his USA Trip, which received assistance via a successful funded Indiegogo campaign, was ended prematurely due to unforeseen complications.  Sadly, and adding insult the injury of his defeat, he has also had to endure some particularly unpalatable comments from those among his audience.  I expect that the almost unanimous chorus counselling him to sweep the leg and power on come what may, while obviously well intentioned, would also have given him somewhat mixed feelings.

Frankly it is overwhelmingly clear that Trent had little option but to abort his mission, as it was the only responsible course of action he could take in the circumstances.  Personally I think his decision to do so, even in the face of what must have seemed to have been an almost overwhelming pressure to push on, shows him to be exceedingly well qualified for the task he has set himself.

After a week of down time spent, among other things, nursing his pride and gathering his thoughts, Trent has reemerged with a direct and hard hitting response to his critics and an outpouring of appreciation for his supporters along with a detailed and well reasoned explanation of exactly why he chose to end his ambitious project early.  Most importantly, he has also reaffirmed his commitment to his ambitious project, which is fantastic news.

I look forward to continuing to follow Trent's progress as he works through the improvements, advancements and refinement necessary to better prepare him for the next attempt along with the opportunity to again support him in his endeavour.

  • Trent,

I am totally confident that you will master your technical difficulties in the air, but what I am most impressed with is how you have navigated around the social trash on the ground...

  • Good work Trent. Maybe in the next couple of months, do a cross Arkansas trip. top to bottom or west to east.

  • Trent - I'm so sorry that you had to deal with such negativity from a minority of people. Unfortunately if you choose to publish on the Internet then you will be exposed to a wide variety of people including many who obviously have serious personality issues. They don't deserve your time and please don't give them any power over you by letting them upset you. If someone has something negative to ask I'm sure it can be asked in a respectable way that you would be happy to address.

So that's one lesson from the trip I guess. It seems like you learned a lot of other things as well. If you had not made this attempt you wouldn't have learned any of that. So that's a huge positive. Any successful person will tell you that if you aren't failing, then you aren't learning or pushing the envelope enough. So what you have that none of those distractors have is courage and integrity. Again, you don't owe them any explanations.

Keep up the great work. If you ever get to Australia I'll be happy to help you out on any adventure you like. Go Trent go!

  • Trent - You are an excellent spokesperson for this hobby. Safety first! Absolutely.

Thank you for setting a fine example for so many in this community to witness and follow. Although you had to stop your trip, the lesson and message you are spreading about safety is always needed.

Well done. Congrats for everything you've done and continue to do.

Ready to support your next trip! Great attempt!

  • Respect Trent.  Sometimes the right thing is harder to do.

    Keep it going Trent!

  • Good Trent!!!   looking forward for the next  attempt. You will succeed and one day I'll see you on the news for being the first to cros USA  with  an RC plane

I share your disappointment at the outcome of the USA trip. That said you absolutely did the tight thing, both from a safety prospective as well as for the public relations point of "Drone/sUAS/UAV" community.

I think you made the right decision, at the right time. for the right reasons.

Your show is a great way to show what a positive influence technology can have in our lives! Continue to challenge yourself and we will continue to watch and learn through both your triumphs and failures.

Don't let the trolls get to you, just keep doing what you're doing, and block the trolls. It's your website, it's your business, it's your life! If they don't like it too bad!! As you said they're just being ignorant, they're not happy unless they're complaining or hating on someone. Those of us who follow you're show know the reality of things and are behind you 100%.

Perhaps your next attempt might be a small stepping stone to your next USA trip, say perhaps a weekend trip across Arkansas say from Eldorado to Jonesboro and back again. That would be approximately 500 miles (over 800km)! Certainly a worthy goal, and it might teach you (and us) some valuable lessons about how to overcome some of the obstacles that plagued the USA trip.

I look forward to seeing your upcoming videos from the trip (patiently), and seeing your analysis of what went wrong.

Keep up the great work and don't let the trolls bring your spirits down!

    Best Regards,

    Nathaniel ~KD2DEY

  • He definitely has a great "on-air" personality! Only great things ahead for him!
