Hi X8 Copter folks! Opening a new Group as I wish to share my development and gather information on yours. Please join in and let's grow our hobby!
Landing gear for 3DR X8
So I am thinking of adding a "crab"-style landing gear to my 3dr x8 octoquad. This is mainly so I can add padding at the bottom for extra protection and for the ability to land/float on water in case of an emergency (and also for added clearance for gimbals, etc). Adding pool noodles or pipe insulation to the skids should do the trick. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I am looking at this frame from QuadFrame.us. It's meant for a DJI F450 but I think it will work with the X8.…

Hi Doug, wonderful group you started. Your bird on the table looks great...unlike mine that is a stock DIY store purchase and without a canopy. Can you give me an idea of where you purchased your canopy? My intentions are not to fly in the rain, but some drizzle could probably play havoc with the exposed circuit boards. TKS, Bob

What ESC's are you using?
Refit complete! Will be taking it out for a test flight tomorrow weather permitting.
See photos and a video of it reassembled.

Hi Folks!
Thought I'd establish a new group and update everyone with where I'm at in my build.
As some may be aware, I built a custom OctoQuad frame from OMGFLY.com called the ATG T2-X4-12 Carbon Fiber Frame. I installed 3DR 880KV black motors which later found to be the wrong type to use and cooked a 8000 mAh battery.
So I'm now refitting new motors from SunnySky called the 4108S 11 600Kv outrunner motors to my frame. I have two of the 4 arms completed and should be wrapping up the refit soon. I will be planning to test 13x47 or maybe 14x47 APC propellers with these motors for best flight results/characteristics as well.
I recently ordered a LIDAR sensor from RobotShop.com but it is on backorder with an estimate delivery date around the 30th of December. I will be performing altitude testing of both the sonar and LIDAR close to the ground and at each of the sensors max limits and over different terrains to include water. I plan to publish those results in the main forum room once I'm satisfied with my tests.
For more details, pictures and videos on my OctoQuad (X8), go to my page if you're interested.
More to follow to include updated pictures and videos as soon as refit has been completed. :-)
