About Me:

I've been flying RC aircraft for the past 19 years (started when I was 6) and I now work designing and test flying UAVs.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am very interested in 3D printing and how it can be used for small scale UAVs to customize airframes to customer's needs. I also am interested in long-endurance operations and am trying to do thermal detection with my Radian Pro running an APM 2.5

Eli Cohen replied to Brett Smith's discussion This site has changed a lot since 2014?
"I agree! I used to come here every day to see what people were up to... it's become a lot less engaging and some of the barely-disguised marketing is not like the good old days."

Eli Cohen commented on ChasityWhite's blog post What Can't Be Missing for A Long-Distance 900 MHz Drone
"Agree with Edward Sellars below. Frequency is lower for longer range.

These posts appear to be quite blatant advertising: "Investment in these products is recommended""

Eli Cohen commented on Jack's blog post Preferred Motors Of DRL Pilots
"This seems like an ad

I was hoping to get some analysis of what motors people actually use but this is just a bunch of fluff and then a mention of one product."

Eli Cohen commented on eUGENE's blog post Is it possible to beat drone jammers?
"do they also jam sound? wondering if you could place a few really loud sirens around their property at known coordinates and use those for positioning. each one could be at different freq and a bit of simple math (intensity + frequency shifts) might…"

Eli Cohen commented on jlcortex's blog post Searching for heavy duty applications for HYBRiX20
"I am curious what requirements were used in the design of this aircraft? Was it based on market data for what people needed? Were there clients you initially had in mind? Perhaps I am misunderstanding your post but I would imagine that you would…"

Eli Cohen commented on Cameron Sickbert's blog post Emergency Response UAV Now on Indiegogo!
"from the render, the tail volume looks much too small in both horizontal and vertical dimensions. I've had this bookmarked for years to remind me of the formulae generally used here. "

Eli Cohen commented on Rick Yonika's blog post Google wing, NASA greased lightning, move over....
"this is CRAZY! I worked on a concept like this many many years ago but the controllers were a pain. Insane to see the performance here. Very impressive!!! Are you doing gain scheduling?
Here's a render of the vehicle I worked on..... looks pretty…"

Eli Cohen commented on Aldo Vargas's blog post Slung load controller
"So cool! I did this (in a simpler setup) as an undergrad with a simple modification of the position control loop to take into account the angle and angular acceleration of a slung payload. Also did everything in a vicon room with no onboard…"

Eli Cohen commented on Andrew Rabbitt's blog post Climb-Glide: Improving the range of fixed-wing, electric UAVs
"very interesting!
I did exactly the same math using an optimization routine to choose the "best" climb and glide profile based on some requirements. I was actually trying to optimize aircraft weight (via battery weight reduction due to lowered power…"

"eager to see how it works out, please post video! might run into tuning issues getting it just right but should be easy to flip in and out of stabilize mode. "
