  • Hello! I suggest a composite aircraft. Let us 3d print complex elements of the aircraft combined with lightweight waterproof Depron brand foam for the flat and curved larger sections ( wings/ side-bodies/ tail). This will save significant amount weight. Hence a heavier payload and or better efficiency. In the USA it is found at rcdepron.com
  • hello ;-) im printing all my drones with very good results ;-) im using my printers DS EVIL FORGE ;-) for more infos watch drone solution LTD on facebook ;-)

if some one will need help with printing or some around , feel free to ask ;-)

  • There is 3d software like blender and onshape that is easy to use so you can easily put your ideas to a .igs file. Almost any library has a 3d printer and will print out your files for an small fee $5 for a decent size part. Some even let you use the machine if you bring your own filament.

  • I've had good luck with MakeXYZ.com. Sort of like 3d hubs but better in my opinion.
  • Hi Bill,

Sorry for the late reply, but I'd like to add to Andrew's comment. I too had a good experience with 3D hubs. I printed a customized cam holder with bearings and all. You only need to provide the STL file. Warning: 3D hubs will "optimize" the fill rate of your model. It tends to make it lighter, but might compromise structural strength. I don't know if there's any setting for this.

    Hope this help. Cheers,

@andrew , @joshua - Thanks.  I'm going to try both.  Andrew, can you send me an email or tweet direct.  Where are you located ?

    tweet me @billrockus

  • I have 3d printed clamps for carbon fiber tubes. I just finished a design that converts a standard DJI 450 to use CF tubes instead of the plastic arms. I have a printer, would gladly print some parts for you as I'm interested in doing the same thing - covering the printed parts with CF
  • @Bill,
Trying using the official 3D Printing Service of CADDrones.com which is 3DHubs.com! You should be able to find someone local using that.

I don't have a 3D Printer, but I would like to print some parts.  Rather than build a 3d printed fuselage, I am using carbon fiber tubes and plates.  What I would like to do is print the tube clamps and other hardware on a 3D printer and reinforce them with CF/Epoxy.  I have used Shapeways before, but I would really like to find someone local who can do the printing for me.  I need fast turn around which I don't get from Shapeways.

Be careful with 3D printers in crowdfunding campaigns

Be careful  to buy 3D printers in crowdfunding campaigns !One of the most commons errors that startup companies do is to sell at too much low prices their printers in the crowdfunding campaign .Then they will do not have enough money to build and ship the printers when  some extra cost arise, i.e. the express courier do not maintain shipping quote. The more they succeded with the campaign the more they will have problems to ship the printers. With the paradoxically  situation where you'll find in…

3D printed drones without wires/solder!

Hi group,I'm looking for a small/micro quadcopter design that has potential to have its wires and soldered connections replaced with fully 3D printed circuits and power traces. Our company, www.functionalize.com, would like to provide samples of our highly conductive F-Electric PLA filament and another yet unreleased highly conductive (even more so, actually) material we believe can do the job. Our web page shows recent examples of printed Arduino-compatible processor sockets, dual layer circuit…
