Chim Xotox replied to George Sugden's discussion ADVICE on Roof surveying
"Be careful about accepting legal advice given on an Internet forum by someone who is not  even in the same country and who has presented no relevant credentials and who has a history of encouraging '"compliance" and "licencing" which may or may not…"

Chim Xotox commented on Iain Butler's blog post LA Drone Expo - Is it really all about the Drone?
"That aggressive, badly-done face on the already nasty-looking Rube Goldberg DJI contraption (that looks like it was designed in some mom's basement by a 13-year old in teen-crisis) is exactly what we don't need. It's garbage like this that fuels the…"

Chim Xotox commented on Thomas J Coyle III's blog post FAA Delay: Comprehensive Set of Rules On Drone Use May Not Be Finalized Until 2017 or Later
"Comment by Chim Xotox just nowDelete Comment
By 2017 we should have UAVs that weigh less than two pounds (maybe much less) and that are capable of most functions and thus present little or no safety threat to anything in the FAA's domain. Perhaps…"

Chim Xotox commented on Jack Crossfire's blog post An entire neighborhood XMas lightshow from a quad
"Nice, can you tell us what airframe, gimble and camera? Also a tip; As you see, speedy horizontal panning yields an unpleasant vertiginous jerkyness. It seems to matter not what camera is used, video panning only seems to work decently if done…"

Chim Xotox commented on Martin von Kameke's blog post Beast TX - The ultimate UAV Controller
"@Mauricio: Very, very nice looking!  Can you give us a narrative of how you built this? Any plans to produce these? Kickstarter?     "

Chim Xotox commented on Martin von Kameke's blog post Beast TX - The ultimate UAV Controller
"It's the "realtime clock" that's the reason for the high price. Made by Patek Philippe, it accounts for 3500 Euros of the price. The remaining 68 Euros are for the rest of the bits, sourced at Radio Shack going-out-of-business sales. The case…"

Chim Xotox commented on Eric Compas's blog post APM response to catastrophic air frame/wing failure?
"So you want to ride your tricycle blindfolded into freeway traffic and then expect that some iPhone app should sense a bus bearing down on you and whisk you up into Winnie the Pooh's tree?  Would you like fries with that?
1. Learn how to fly.…"

Chim Xotox replied to Edgar Scott's discussion Should we put an end to requiring a traditional Tx for Multicopters? in ArduCopter User Group
"Edgar Scott wrote:  "... yes I do know how to fly been doing it for 10 years, at least once a month, maybe not as good as anyone here or as good as you but oh well."
The issue isn't whether you can fly or how well, maybe you're Chuck Yaeger's…"

Chim Xotox commented on Randy's blog post ArduCopter 3.2 Released
"Rana, It is very impressive that the aircraft actually completed this flight and remained in one piece without crashing! Something seems to be badly out of balance and/or out of tune, the vibration (and the rough sound) seems extreme (as reflected…"

Chim Xotox replied to Edgar Scott's discussion Should we put an end to requiring a traditional Tx for Multicopters? in ArduCopter User Group
"Here'a a direction for Mr Scott to take in his quixotic quest for a stickless- wonder controller that eliminates the need to actually learn to fly. I suggest that with just a little bit of research and experimentation, along with some reviewing of…"

Chim Xotox replied to Edgar Scott's discussion Should we put an end to requiring a traditional Tx for Multicopters? in ArduCopter User Group
"Sorry for the slow reply. Pusher motor was controlled directly by the pilot via a dedicated channel and knob on the Tx. So it was totally independent of the APM. "

Chim Xotox replied to Edgar Scott's discussion Should we put an end to requiring a traditional Tx for Multicopters? in ArduCopter User Group
"I tried that about a year ago, strapped a beam on a medium-size Hexacopter and mounted a prop/motor on it, as a pusher, to see what would happen. It didn't work well, I think because when pushing it tried to tilt the aircraft, and the FC then…"

Chim Xotox replied to Edgar Scott's discussion Should we put an end to requiring a traditional Tx for Multicopters? in ArduCopter User Group

Chim Xotox commented on Chris Anderson's blog post WSJ scoop on forthcoming FAA rules -- pilots license will be required for commercial use unless Congress intervenes
"@Mike: The WSJ, of all things, is not going to be leaking something intended to benefit the little guy. The benefit here is to the heavyweight industrial drone makers (like Northrup, Boeing and such, along with a smattering of commercial helicopter…"

Chim Xotox replied to Edgar Scott's discussion Should we put an end to requiring a traditional Tx for Multicopters? in ArduCopter User Group

@ Edgar: IMHO it is irresponsible and…"

Chim Xotox commented on Chris Anderson's blog post WSJ scoop on forthcoming FAA rules -- pilots license will be required for commercial use unless Congress intervenes
"More Chicken Little hysteria (an epidemic on this site). This WSJ article is just throwaway space filler, using the click-on-me word de jour, in this case "drone." The authors are clearly ignorant and confused about UAVs and about the FAA's function…"
