G McCollam replied to G McCollam's discussion Duplicate Sololink network after v1.2 upgrade, in 3DR SOLO
"Thanks Chip. This turned out to be a problem which I can't fix on my end. 3DR will replace the unit. For a short while there was an issue with 3DR's upgrade server that resulted in firmware being written to the wrong device. Only a handful of people…"

G McCollam replied to G McCollam's discussion Duplicate Sololink network after v1.2 upgrade, in 3DR SOLO
"No, the controller doesn't see Solo when the two are powered on.  When I turn the controller off and power up the Solo I see one SSID; when I turn Solo off and turn on the Controller I see another (older) SSID. When both are on I see two, the older…"

G McCollam replied to G McCollam's discussion Duplicate Sololink network after v1.2 upgrade, in 3DR SOLO
"Thanks Erik,
In fact this is/was an issue with 3DR. There was a bug where the update was installing a controller firmware to the Solo. In my case there are in fact two networks with the Solo and the controller using separate network configs. Turning…"

G McCollam replied to G McCollam's discussion Duplicate Sololink network after v1.2 upgrade, in 3DR SOLO
"Thanks Chip, Unfortunately that doesn't work. The controller won't respond to the pair button (tried your sequence several times). I've been in conversation with 3DR support and it looks like it may be an issue related to this release, perhaps…"

G McCollam posted a discussion in 3DR SOLO
I just performed the update to v1.2 and now have two Sololink networks in my settings tab (iOS) - one being the original - Sololink-xxx - the other being a newer Sololink network with the default password. The app seems to recognize only the newer…

G McCollam replied to Scott B Hunt's discussion Solo drone and Mission Planner in 3DR SOLO
"Erik, I'm not sure why it's listed a 'don't do' and perhaps your dual setup avoids the problem but 3DR best practices for Tower recommends not flying autonomous missions or controlling Solo with Tower while in Smart Shots."

G McCollam replied to Ned Horning's discussion The right tool for the job in Agricultural UAVs
"The Mapir camera is a Peau Productions offering. Peau also offers a line of GoPro cameras modified for various uses, including NDVI. It's not clear from information on Mapir's site how close the Mapir is to a modified GoPro, but just looking at the…"

G McCollam replied to Eric Compas's discussion Lost video feed after 1.0.5 update in 3DR SOLO
"I've not done an exhaustive test, but it seems to work in a number of different video modes (gopro 4 black) as long as I've completely stopped and restarted the iOS app whenever the controller is restarted. If you're unsure whether the the app has…"

G McCollam replied to Ken Nelson's discussion Solo Crash on Camera Flash in 3DR SOLO
"The latest from 3DR blog (just slightly edited here) includes more on the 1.05 update. They again reiterate to be mindful of objects in close proximity.
"Solo will now fly better in environments where GPS signal may be less accessible or more…"

G McCollam replied to Ken Nelson's discussion Solo Crash on Camera Flash in 3DR SOLO
"A common thread in recent fly-aways is the Solo is flown in close proximity to a structure of some kind. In one video a multi-level home is nearby; in another there's a boat house to the right and a large structure to the rear; in the ill-fated…"

G McCollam commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Intel Edison-based educational drone kit on Kickstarter
"Great idea, especially the use of frequency/tone as a kind of human-ready API for programming. My only criticism is the price. To back this and receive or donate a kit costs about $500? Is that right? That could put it out of reach of ordinary…"
