James Ross commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Some guidelines on picking wireless frequencies
"The benefit would be that you'd free up that part of the spectrum. Autopilots like the Piccolo autopilot by Cloud Cap Technology integrate data and RC on the 900 MHz band. The remote control plugs right into the base station."

James Ross commented on Jack Crossfire's blog post XBee price cut
"Marty, the GPS L1 frequency is 1575.42 MHz, so it's closer to 900 MHz than 2.4 Ghz, but not by a whole lot. All electronic devices are going to emit some electromagnetic radiation. It's difficult to predict what is going to work. You might have…"

James Ross commented on Jack Crossfire's blog post XBee price cut
"I was hoping to benchmark them last week. I ordered a pair of the $42 RPSMA XBee-Pro 900s on the 13th. Maybe they'll arrive this week."

James Ross commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Introducing ArduPilot: the world's cheapest autopilot!
"The TinyAVR is the AT45 chip. It's just a small microcontroller, like the ATMega168, that needs to be programmed. The 6 pin header and that contraption is used to program the TinyAVR chip."

James Ross replied to goldstar's discussion Pulsjejet forum
"I hope no older folks in London read to much into this post.

Anyway, I imagine there would be stabilization issues with any pulse jet powered aircraft using thermopiles for stabilization. The exhaust is pretty hot.

Here's an impressive video of an…"

James Ross commented on Howard Gordon's blog post $3 gyro ?
"This would be great! Even $10/unit would be a significant improvement. I'll believe it when I see it Q3 this year."

James Ross commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Five good planes to convert to a UAV
"A lot of universities are using SIG Kadet Senior aircraft because of the relatively large internal space and 7 pound payload capacity (with a bit of modification). If you're looking for long endurance or to carry a lot of electronics, this is a good…"

James Ross commented on quix-fz's blog post prototype of my uav-pcb
"Be careful with that gyro. It has a max rate of 75 degrees/sec (that's a slow 1 revolution per 4.61 seconds). This might be good enough for your application, but it could get saturated in most R/C airplanes."

James Ross commented on paul hubner's blog post Propeller: Google Earth GPS SD Card Logger
"Jack,
The Propeller Tool doesn't really work well under Linux but you might be able read the .spin files (some have tried). It's rather unfortunate. Also, you can see the SD card schematic for the Propeller"

James Ross commented on paul hubner's blog post Propeller: Google Earth GPS SD Card Logger
"This looks really good, Paul. And all with just one cog.

I can't wait to see the second half. Building waypoints in GE and dropping it on the SD card would be really convenient."

Try a stainless steel bottle."
