About Me:

I've been working in IT before finishing High-school, which looking back is now around 25 years. Programming was one of the first things I ever took up, spending many a day back to back coding hundreds and thousands of lines of BASIC. I am now a National IT Manager for a large retail chain, and my interests haven't wained.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I've been flying R/C planes and choppers avidly for about 10 years now, and for the past 5 have been fiddling with on-board cameras, from 2.4Ghz to GoPros (before they became the ONLY camera every one seems to use, seriously don't you just see it everywhere on News Media...?) I had been given my first glider around 25 years ago, and started designing a UAV going back around 20 years ago, whilst still in high school learning everything I could about Aerodynamics (in a world which at the time had No Google.) I have steadily built parts for airframes over this time, but each time we have moved house bits and pieces get damaged and I have to start again. Which is where I am now - ready to start afresh with bold new plans and ideas.

"Awesome stuff as usual Tridge & CUAV gang...Being summer again I've decided to get out and aloft again after nearly 12 months out of action (what a busy year...) - might finally get my UAS going before next Xmas - anyway I've been following your…"

Leigh Green replied to Heino R. Pull's discussion Ardustation 2 - 2.0.20 Adds Servo Setup, Compatibility with 3DR OSD, Optional Baro Altitude For Pointing
"Ok I'm flat out trying to figure out how to achieve just 360 degrees from a set of 6 turn Winch servos I have that go 2160 degrees, apparently 1500 to 1900 usec pulses.  Or are they completely unsuited for this application?  I got them because they…"

"Jani - going to order, but just wondering a couple of things:
What input voltage is the ASM accepting? - I'd love to just stick with a standard 3cell as in my ground station that's also powering Video receiver among other things...
Also is there…"

Leigh Green commented on Chris Anderson's blog post $1250 RTF UAV for autonomous GoPro filming
"Picture this...it's a tempred Autumns day...Chris approaches a workbench to see a Can on it with no labels, but with a note...the note says "Do Not open - *signed Conscience*" - always the adventurous type, Chris finds his favourite can opener,…"

"Don't you hate it when you "saw something first..." - I bought two gopro hero's many years ago, well before they went HD - they were expensive and I used to use them on my motorbike (but who didn't back then,) I initially purchased them because they…"

"Just one more thing - I don't think it is following specific waypoints - it looks in that video to be that it flys straight for 200m, makes a 60 degree turn, flys for 200m, makes another 60 degree turn then flys 200m back to point of origin.  It's…"

Leigh Green commented on Chris Anderson's blog post $1250 RTF UAV for autonomous GoPro filming
"I don't think it's so much a comment on it's commercial viability - and I suppose not real comparisons in the DIY sense...perhaps even a bit of "Damn they thought of it before we did..."
From a Commercial standpoint - yes it will be targeted at…"

Leigh Green commented on Chris Anderson's blog post $1250 RTF UAV for autonomous GoPro filming
"Well the whole unit is in fact black EPO if you look at it, and the "new tire hair" is just part of the EPO moulding process - look at any EPO trainer you get from Hobbyking - like the AXN, etc.  they have them all over. the wings.
Carbon fibre -…"

"Well my 2.0 unit was only involved in a very minor scuffle from 10ft up at only about 15kph and was completely untouched, I sent a query to 3drobotics only to get the following back:
Thank you for contacting 3D Robotics Technical Support.…"

"idzuwan

After having an AXN which is now more of a BXN (Busted XN) - I actually suggest that once you've cut the belly you should re-inforce.  I had a nose dive which tore the front of the whole plane and it split right up the cut I made for the…"

Leigh Green replied to Morne Jacobsz's discussion AMP2 Potentially dead in ArduPlane User Group
"Two main questions:
Are you using the correct serial speed in Mission Planner?
Are you using the APM with 7.4v plug-pack whilst also plugged into USB?  - It is best not to do this, you could cause an overvoltage ground loop (where the potential…"

"Yes - back of my mind I was thinking along the same lines, there was just too much "black-hole" around ArduMega and 3DR - and when you see Megaplanner still only supporting Ardutracker, I mean seriously what's with that?  (I've got a couple other…"
