  • I just got back from testing and crashing.  I tried to launch in fly-by-wire and it dove for the ground.  I have no idea why I tried that.  It broke the motor free from the mount so I started looking around for something to jam in the mount and hold it.  I found an old whopper wrapper and shoved that in.  It seemed to hold so I took off in manual.  It was going ok, the seperate BEC seemed to be working.  I put it in fly by wire and that seemed better than manual with the wind like it was.  I started thinking about landing and it started getting really squirrely.  Then it wouldnt climb even though it had full power.  I tried one more lap to set it up and it didnt make it and slammed into the ground while in a turn about 20 feet up.  I dont know if the motor came loose and I was getting vectored thrust or if the IMU came loose or the tail came loose or what.  It was like somebody else was flying it, strange.

  • Charles, lucky you with the 406.  I know mine could be fixed if I knew what burns out when it gets reverse polarity.  It's probably a diode or maybe a regulator and then I'd need to find the right ones, pay for shipping, might as well get the Ublox.

As for the hex file, here it's compiled to run EM406 on version 2 IMUarduimu.cpp.hex

  • Brian, I am using V8FR-HV receiver from FrSky. I have added 2.4GHz module to my radio, keeping the MHz also by using an additional toggle switch.

Charles, I am using FMA CoPilot (without Z sensor) available from revolectrix (the old version) and it is not very expensiv.

  • I figured out how to send a PM but have nothing in my inbox.

  • Charles, I was out for a while. I can't find a PM.

  • Charles, I have a brand new set of DIY Drones thermopiles I'll sell you if you're interested.

    Thanks everyone for the support.

Charles, I was using the good old original config for the AP(l) with Thermopiles.  They work well, just limited to days with good thermo differences ground/sky.  I have a APM but w/out any oilpan or sensors.  Been saving for an ArduRover.

Harry, that's what I worry about when making my own adapters.  Burnt a monocle video display that way a long time ago...

Anwar, what GHz stuff you got?

The good news: For my RC gear, only the ESC is fried.  When I say fried, I mean FRIED.  I tested yesterday and let all the magic smoke out... on the plus side, I salvaged all the good wires off the ESC.

The bad news: so far it looks like my AP(l) might be bad too... More testing to follow as well as a few pics.

  • Brian, Harry, sorry about the mishap.

I discovered one thing that my MHz receiver gives flying time about thrice more than my GHz receiver for the same plane.

  • I see that Charles.  I have to wonder if there is something that's going to make it hard to use.  Will the Ublox configuration file for the ArdupilotMega work with the IMU or the Ardupilot(legacy)?

  • I feel your pain, Brian.  Everything is going wrong for me.  I fried my EM-406 by trying to make an adapter cable to FTDI, got it backwards.  I broke the antenna off my Tx, and I crashed due to the ESC.  I'm wondering if the mediatek MT3339 is any good?

Manual for Ardupilot Mega 1.0/1.4

Hi, I have a couple of the older APM boards.  I stopped flying for a few years and kind of lost touch with them.Trying to get back into the hobby now and I've discovered that all the instructions for the old boards are no longer available!  The boards do seem to be working and can be connected to Mission Planner. Could someone please assist by directing me to where the relevant legacy manual can be viewed/downloaded?Thanks so much...

ArduPilot w/ ATMega328 boards & ArduIMU+ V3 kit

Hi there I bought a couple ArduPilot w/ ATMega328 boards a few years back, but didn't get to use them .... work got in the way! I'm still keen to do something with them -- using an IMU set-up - but now that ArduIMU+ V2 (Flat) is no longer available/produced (understandably as much as changed since I bought my boards) it seems that 3D Robotics Inc's ArduIMU+ V3 kit (or the board from SparkFun) is the only IMU available. However, I have read that it isn't compatible with the ArduPilot legacy…
