  According to the minutes of the Aeromodellers WA Council Meeting in the Windsock magazine, CASA contacted the MAAA and advised them that some FPVers were being taken to court for flying 2km from an airport and the CASA would be taking breaches seriously.

  Hi everyone, my name is TK and I'm new to the scene! Just started flying quads recently and have been hooked ever since! I live in Riverton and started flying with the Blade mqx micro quad before decided to build a larger one from hobbyking parts. It's good to find this group and hope it's a good place to share/obtain some tips and tricks.

  Sure did mate. Not assembled yet and I still need to purchase servos. I'm a long way off flying it. I'm saving it up for when I get the rest of my CASA theory completed. It is a really large airframe and I will be requesting special permission from CASA to fly the aircraft at a higher altitude (1500 ft). Location also to be confirmed. It has the potential to do some damage if it goes wrong. It will also be carrying some VERY expensive telemetry gear (3 independent telemetry streams for redundancy) so lots of testing and setup to do on the electronics front. I hope that it will eventually be quite a professional setup.

  Undercarriage is just loosely assembled so I can move it around the workshop (main legs are on backwards) build quality is quite good but will require reinforcement in undercarriage attachment points.

  @John did you buy that Mugin?  If so, have you flown it yet? I've thought about buying one, but its big!

  A good place (if you have balls) is from the huge park in south perth, where the Boat Shed cafe and the Hobby Cats are hired.  I've seen a flew gliders and FPVers fly from there, and I've flown there across the river a couple of times.  However, be careful not to go all the way across the river as the CBD is considered a populous area and model aircraft must stay "well clear", which is open to interpretation as to how far is well clear.  I've spoken to CASA a number of times about my flights over the river, they get a little concerned, however, my position is that the river would not be considered a populous area, and that as long as I stay below 400ft, no offence is commit.  Also many joy flights fly at 1500 ft there plus helicopters lower, so definitely stay below 400ft.

  After I flew over the river, my mate stalled and spun on launch and ended up in the river a few months ago :-)

  Yokine Reserve is also pretty good, but you need to be a member of WARS.  Membership is only $10, plus $90 MAAA fees.  They have area approval to 1000ft there, and they don't give a number 2 about FPV, in fact they are the most relax in terms of following rules.  I avoid flying there during club flying times due to the likelihood of mid airs due to poor airmanship.

  No offence taken, I don't want to be doing the wrong thing. It's hard enough as it is to find places to fly in the suburbs.
