I would always advise performing a maiden flight without loading up an additional $1000 worth of optional equipment on board.
I would also recommend running through the manual one more time before flying.
Definitely update the software and firmware to the newest version that was released today.

Surprise: A package arrived from 3D Robotics, this afternoon, via FedEx. Well, my Solo finally showed up, 1 day shy of 12 weeks from the original order. However, the only item in the Box was the Solo Drone (including the remote). No Gimbal and No Spare battery. I will be anxiously awaiting more packages.
So, I am now charging the battery for the Drone and the transmitter. Maybe I will update the software and try to fly it tomorrow.
Any recommendations: Fly it with or without the GoPro, the first time?

I think its safe to say that if there is one thing 3DR is good at its being untruthful (which is rather sad really), and they're also highly skilled (depending on how look at it) at continuously making false claims...Hope you finally get your Solo/Gimbal someday soon!
I cancelled my entire order (Solo and Gimbal) with DSLRPros, a week ago, today and then ordered the items directly from 3DR, directly (the same day). As of this morning, my account at DSLRPros shows that it is "on hold" and the 3DR order charged my credit card and the shipping is still "Processing".
DSLRPros said it would take 1 - 2 weeks to have the refund show up on my credit card. I hope so, because, so far, I have invested over $2800 in a Drone system without anything to show, except for the credit card bills.
Even though, I was told (see comment below on 9/26 at 2:05) that my order would be shipped within 24 - 48 hours, I am still in "Shipping Processing".
This Wednesday will be 12 weeks from my original order date. I highly doubt I will see the order received before that date. (but maybe the original refund will show up).
I eventually cancelled my gimbal order with DSLRPros and ordered from B&H. It arrived 3 days later.

We have been in discussions with DSLRPros for the past several weeks regarding their fulfillment issues with their preorders and have come to an agreement that it will be faster if you place your order directly with 3DR. You'll be receiving an email from DSLRPros with instructions on what to do so that you'll get your gimbals shipped within 24-48 hours. Dennis, let me know if you didn't get that email from DSLRPros.
That stinks. I thought DSLRPros was a DLI shop.
That's why I bought from BHPhoto..also on the last day of the free battery. Then when I saw on here that they had Gimbals in stock so I ordered the next day....I think that was about a week or so ago. I've had the Solo and been playing with it a bit and today my gimbal came in.
New to the Forum, so forgive me if I screw things up.
I have read a number of comments on DSLRPros and 3DR concerning the Gimbals that they never received. I am in a similar situation. I ordered a Solo and Gimbal on the last day of the "supposed" free battery give-away (July 15). DSLRPros was happy to take my order and charge my credit card. Here it is 10 weeks later and the only thing I have seen is my Credit Card Bill.
DSLRPros has offered to refund my money and cancel my order, but I hate to lose out on that Free Battery Offer ($150). DSLRPros keep telling me that it is 3DR's problem, where they haven't shipped them the product. 3DR Sales says they can't do anything because I didn't order from them directly. So here I am stuck holding the Credit Card Bill.
Now I see that the Solo is only back ordered 5 - 7 business days (on the 3DR website). I've been waiting 10 weeks. Either DSLRPros is blow smoke or 3DR has a bad PR/shipping/order fulfillment department. I even went the route of sending an email directly to Vu Tran (since he seems to be able to get to the bottom of things on this website) but so far, no response.
The summer is gone and along with it, the dreams of aerial video of the vacations.
So for all of you who are still waiting for your Gimbal, some of us are still waiting for the Solo.
Having new problems with Solo wifi disconnecting on Android. Can anyone else confirm after latest 3DR services update on Sept 22nd? Solo and Solo Beta app both exhibit this problem for me. Couldn't fly cuz I kept loosing wifi and as a result video loss. Shame cuz I was getting 1.5 HDOP in a new location and was locked onto 11 sats in 30 seconds.
