About Me:

Electrical Engineer (mostly automation theses days)

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I want an aerial Photo platform and since I rapidly understood that learning and mastering single rotor CP helis will take a while I decided to go parallel with a multicopter and while flying the heli with paddles and as unstabilized as possible, pour all the electronics into the multicopter. Just building my debut: a 3DR hexa

Stephan Hiltenkamp replied to Stephan Hiltenkamp's discussion 3DR Radio 433MHz firmware logic problem. Was: YA3DRRLWT Yet another 3DR radio (433) link woes thread..
"I have worked through the documentation of for the SI1000 and the firmware and I think from the tables that they hardcode to always run wideband FM modulation with H>2
That doesn't work for ETSI/EN300 though - at least not if one wants to use the…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp replied to Stephan Hiltenkamp's discussion 3DR Radio 433MHz firmware logic problem. Was: YA3DRRLWT Yet another 3DR radio (433) link woes thread..
"I did have some time to spend on the firmware sources and the radio documentation and I think my initial thoughts about erroneous syncs are true. Here is what I found:
According to the ETSI rules (clause 7.2.3) there are three configurations in the…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp replied to Dean Miller's discussion Channel 6 PID Tuning Problem
"How did you calibrate the radio? Via Cli or MP? There were problems with the CLI method in previous versions of AC. When you look at the Mavli k Parameter list, what does it give you for the radio channel limits?

There is a newer version of MP…"

"Don't know how the S8=433040 slipped in there. Should be S8=434040

Oh - and could someone explain what S13 and S14 do? S14 is fairly self-explanatory but S13:Manchester?

Stephan Hiltenkamp replied to Craig Elder's discussion APM Copter 2.9.1.b has been released
"Hello all,
I just ran into some strange effects.
Setup: APM2.0, Arducopter 2.9.1b self compile (due to my flashing issue with APM).
Story so far: After the initial update to 2.9.1, Hexa flies quite nicely in Stabilize and Alt-Hold - better than ever…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp commented on Stephen Zidek's blog post Watch Out! Udrones ARFs need threadlock.
"A - yes, threadlock belongs on all threads where metal touches metal. Use red for stuff you want to stay put forever (will only come lose if heated) and blue for things you want to unmount in the future without too much effort.

B- reduce vibration,…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter 2.7.2/2.7.3 released
"Potential issue with ArduCopter 2.7.3 as downloaded (source) today:
Downloaded sources, configured APM_config.h for APM2 with frame set to HEXA Plus, compiled and uploaded with Arduino 1.0.1 on OS X 10.6.8
Then proceeded to configure APM via CLI…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp replied to Adam Majerczyk's discussion Fail safe in PPM setup
"You clearly are going along the same lines as I do :-) (Graupner hardware, simple wiring) i was going to write to Jordi Muniz (the author of the PPM decoding software) about this and ask for a timeout...

My proposal was centered around the…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp commented on Adam Majerczyk's blog post Graupner HoTT v4 telemetry protocol for ArduPilot
"Additional comment after looking at your project page: The text-mode would be capable of enabling a full GCS! I have an Unilog2 and it uses the textmode for configuration in that way.
textmode is a true terminal session that allows any text-output…"

"Awesome!!!!! Just what I have been waiting for.
to shed some light onto the technical aspects (as far as I have been able to grasp):
It works with 19200 bit/s, hardware interface is single wire UART. There already is an implementation for…"

Stephan Hiltenkamp commented on Andreas M. Antonopoulos's blog post ArduCopter 2.7 Released!
"Bit more detail about the servos:
Generally analogue servos are controlled by giving them a new setpoint at 50 Hz (as mentioned) with the usual 1000-2000us PWM scheme
"Digital" standard servos accept setpoints at a higher frequency still with the…"
