Talk about the 3DR Solo quadcopter
4K Action Camera Wifi WiMiUS L3 2.45'' LCD Touch Screen $42 off
There is a lot to like about the WiMius L3 16MP 4K Action Cam as it's undoubtedly a worthy competitor to the GoPro at a sharp fraction of the price. It's simply amazing what they were able to do in such a tight package. It does 4k video , 60fps 1080p video, has a webcam mode which would be used on youtube if necessary, comes with a variety of different accessories like the go pro which includes the signature case and many many other cool things as well. I use a program called Bandicam I was…

First solo flight tonight. Overall very impressed and happy with it's performance. It only takes a couple minutes to get into the air. Very stable and latency was surprisingly low. I can already see the need for upgraded antennas as it was pretty easy to reach maximum range.
Now to get more batteries and put this thing to work!
Well I flew the Solo for the first time tonight without a hitch. This was an impulse purchase, but I needed a compact unit for our trip and my other copters are just too darn big, not to mention the chargers and all the wiring etc.The box fits obscurely in the trunk.
After using traditional RC radios for 30 years it took some getting used to, but the startup procedure is no big deal. Out of the box it took less than an hour to get in the air (I read slow).
To be honest I wasn't expecting such stability and smooth flying. If there are issues people are having with Solo, it isn't with the one I bought. I believe the latest update (shortly before I purchased) may have corrected some bugs.
In any event, although I have no gimbal, the plan is to get some decent video on our trip. After the first few flights it's starting to grow on me. I'm confident 3DR is committed to continually improving. After spending $$$ on this unit, all I can say is there better not be a Solo (+) in a few months :)
Looks like the Solo is starting to ship in Canada. I got a notification this morning that mine is in the mail from Great Hobbies!
Gregg, Did you pick up a Solo yet? Time to get off the fence man! You know you want it!!! You won't be disappointed.
Hello Solo Form...
I picked my solo up yesterday at BB, I was able to use the 10% from the P.O. Thanks form for the 100$ savings. Unfortunately I did not get a free battery. My BB was out of stock and said they could not order anymore. I hope that doesn't mean I missed the boat...I have emailed 3DR for advise on this.
My bird had some of the issues I've read about. 1. My Box had a different serial number than my bird. 2. One of my Gimbal Bay balls was not inserted and I had to remove the bay door and reset it. 3. After the update, my Solo was set to no max altitude.
I had to wait for bad weather to pass but, I did get a flight around the soccer field in. WOW what sweet flying quad.
Anyway, I hope this form will provide me with a good source of SOLO info.
Oh, something worth mentioning: If you go to the post office and get a change of address "kit", it comes with a 10% coupon for Best Buy. Most who have purchased at Best Buy (including myself), have been allowed to use the coupon. A couple have run into managers who are refusing to accept or honor the coupon, but only a couple. Anyway, it is a nice $100 savings...and couple that with the free extra battery and it is a sweet bird.
Brad Roekle: Well, can't say yet. I was out to 1000 feet and had absolutely ZERO evidence of any signal loss. Perfect video feed, both visually, and in reviewing the video captured on my iPhone. However, I did not even look at the signal readings. I will be flying tomorrow and will try to remember to look at the actual signal strength meter. I was doing orbits at that distance and it was flawless. So, have not yet flown to signal loss...I'm sure that will happen inadvertently, but I don't yet have the desire to do that by design. I still plan to fly in line of sight and at 1000 feet, it is impossible to tell orientation and since I have the camera pointed slightly downward, it is hard to get a proper orientation. Maybe when the gimbal is out so I can raise the camera to a straight forward view...it will make it easier to fly FPV.
Got mine from Best Buy on the 15th. I never could get it get a GPS lock and kept being told I had a "level error", but I couldn't perform a level calibration. 3DR tech tried helping, but then, on the 17th, I received my online order that was originally supposed to be delivered on the 7th (or was it the 8th, but I digress). So, returned the originally one to BB and kept the one I got via delivery. WOW!. Everything was like clockwork. When first starting up, you have to do an update/upgrade. Went flawlessly simply following the directions on the controller. When that was done and I was ready to fly, I turned on the Solo, turned on the controller, connected my iPhone to the sololink wifi...and had a 13 satellite lock within maybe a minute, with the question "you ready to fly" being asked of me by the controller. I have flown this thing a number of times, and not a glitch, twitch or error evident. I've got 2 Irises and this is like the Ferrari of 3DR products. It is SOOOOO smooth. Not sure what was wrong with the first bird, but if most are like this second one, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. I sure am not. I only wish I had the gimbal, but I can wait on that. Once that is available, I will find it hard to believe anyone would consider any other.
