Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am keenly interested in using the capabilities of UAV's for mapping, topography, and other 'survey-related' functions. I am especially wanting to learn how to do these functions in very rugged BC terrain.

Marshall Cant commented on Hugues's blog post How-to guide: Pixhawk auto camera trigger (without CHDK)
"Not sure but check the Flytron web site. They make all kinds of IR triggers for all kinds of cameras."

Marshall Cant commented on Hugues's blog post How-to guide: Pixhawk auto camera trigger (without CHDK)
"I gave up on the Stratosnapper. Here is a link to a video that shows everything you need to do the same thing as the Stratosnapper but using a Flytron IR trigger instead. Easier and less cost.

"I have the same problem.  My "Overshoot" field is also set to 0.
If you reduce overlap you also reduce the quality of the results.Pix 4D recommends 70% overlap (as does most other photogrammetry software).
Please explain how to correct this and have…"

"Danilo: could you try doing a coordinate transformation after creating the ortho? Just wondering if that can be done...?

"Oscar: Have you looked at the Escadrone system with the QX1. What's your opinion?
Thanks."

Marshall Cant commented on Daniel McKinnon's blog post Mobile mapping with Solo, GoPro, Tower, and the Agribotix Field Extractor
"Daniel: I have to agree with the others. This is one of the best "How To's" posted on this entire site. Very precise. Much appreciated.
Can Mission Planner be substituted for Tower to plan and push the mission to the Solo? How long do you suppose…"

Marshall Cant replied to Peter M's discussion 3DR Solo for mapping/ survey/ precision ag
"RPM: Thanks for the feedback. I personally don't use Tower any more. Too many issues. It is also lacking in sophistication compared to Mission Planner. That said, 3DR's "official" stand is that neither Tower or Mission Planner are supported for…"

Marshall Cant replied to Peter M's discussion 3DR Solo for mapping/ survey/ precision ag
"I emailed and asked 3DR about Mission Planner. Their reply: NOT compatible and not supported and there is no waypoint functionality in the Solo app as in Mission Planner. That makes Solo, in my mind, just another (albeit sophisticated) flying GoPro.…"

"Ryan: awesome coverage of your process. Have you uploaded your NEX7 mount design file to a place like shapeways.com? That way we could purchase it from you...
Looking forward to seeing this continue.
Best.

Marshall Cant commented on Roger Sollenberger's blog post 3DR Announces the Official Launch of New Mapping Platforms
"Hoping this is the correct thread.
I have a 3DR X8+. I purchased the Mapping package.
Is it necessary to swap out the existing Pixhawk, the radios, the compass/GPS etc for the new ones that came in the mapping package?
Thanks for the help."

Marshall Cant commented on Hugues's blog post How-to guide: Pixhawk auto camera trigger (without CHDK)
"Hugues: When you set up the StratoSnapper using the GUI what do you set as the channels? The choices are Push Button, 2 Way Switch, 3 Way Switch and Stick. But since I will be having the APM control the shutter by DO_SET_CAM_TRIGG_DIST what do I set…"

Marshall Cant replied to Marshall Cant's discussion Autonomous "Vertical" Missions In Mission Planner?
"Sreve: Temporarily I will use a GoPro 3 Black because that's the only gimbal/camera combo I can use. The NEX won't be on a gimbal because I want to make sure the idea works before I drop that amount of cash for a gimbal to hold the NEX.
If you have…"

Marshall Cant replied to Marshall Cant's discussion Autonomous "Vertical" Missions In Mission Planner?
"Steve: That's exactly how I was thinking about it at first and, in fact, that's essentially what I'd be doing.
For me the trick will be to have multiple 'vertical' images taken at the same waypoint (ie as the UAV climbs vertically).
Any ideas how to…"

Marshall Cant replied to Mountains's discussion Is it possible to georeference by comparing your DEM data with a public, georeferenced DEM dataset?
"If you read through the PDF software manuals from PIX4D, Photomodeler, and Agisoft (for example) you can pretty quickly decide the best methodology based on how individual software packages utilize referencing etc.
I chose ground control points to…"

Marshall Cant posted a discussion
Greetings: I am using a 3DR X8, Pixhawk with a NEX5 for standard mapping/photogrammetry. I want to map a cliff face. Is it possible to create an autonomous flight in Mission Planner that will photograph the face in a grid-style pattern up-down and…
