"How has your project worked out since this post? I'm just getting started with a similar project and wanted to know how much progress you have made in a year?
Thanks,
Robert"
"Processing/classifying Point Cloud data requires knowing how to use the software and experience regardless of the software being used. Vegetation is why people use LiDAR because you will likely get points on the ground. LiDAR is an active sensor…"
"Here is a test site I did. 56 - 14 GB photos from Nex-5 alpha processed in Photoscan to generate the point cloud and ortho. The red arrow is pointing to a Bulldozer to give a sense of scale. This is roughly 35 - 45 acres. Ground points classified…"
"I reset my Tx to have a wider variation in the PWM scale between switch settings on the three way switch. I also set all of the intermediate modes to Auto so if there is variance it will stay in Auto which is what I think hotelzululima was telling…"
"Here is a surface model of the ground points from the field next door. I used an NEX-5 and photoscan. to generate the point cloud. TerraScan and TerraModel to classify the points and generate the model. I would look into GlobalMapper as well.…"
"Thank's Tom. I'm using a Hitec Aurora 9 Tx and a Hitec Optima 9 Rx with the 3DR PPM encoder. So what I saw was the X-8 falling without power during the mode switch, then when it hit the stabilize mode (because of the throttle setting it climbed)…"
"I think I figured it out. When I setup my home position I didn't have the MP connected to the X-8 so it assigned an arbitrary value for the elevation. Newbee stupidity :)
"Ok I thought the VCC bouncing around was being caused by the 2 axis gimbal being powered before the 3dr power supply but this doesn't appear to be the case. Below is a VCC graph of a test flight just taken without the gimbal being powered. So what…"
"Looks like VCC is the problem. Here is my interpretation... when it dropped to 4.91 volts the mode switched to stabilize. Since the throttle position was low this allowed the voltage to rise above 5 volts it switched back to auto mode and continued…"

"I meant to say thank you Thomas (first) in my previous post. I can find the place in the log file where it switches from auto mode to stabilize but I can't determine why. This is due to my lack of understanding on how to interpret a log file. Are…"
"Yes I ran the auto analysis, but it doesn't tell me what caused the flight mode to switch from auto to stabilize, then back to auto, then back to stabilize, then back to auto by itself.

Robert"
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm just getting started with the Pixhawk on a XAircraft 650-X8 frame. With Cobra 2217 motors and Afro 20A ESCs using Genfan 11x4.7 props to lift a NEX-5 camera. I made several auto test flights with the…
