Leszek Pawlowicz commented on F. C. Bearsch's blog post FAA approves drones to monitor wildfires in Washington state
"Drones haven't been banned in National Parks, just unauthorized use. They can still be used for research and other purposes with the clearance of Park management."

Leszek Pawlowicz replied to Bill Bonney's discussion Indiegogo & Kickstarter Crowd Sourced Projects discussion
"R10 Quadrotor = Total disaster. They delivered, but it was a terrible, buggy system (not APM-based, which should have set off alarm bells). Worst Kickstarter project I've backed."

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Sue Rosenstock's blog post Pixhawk is Ready for Takeoff
"Are you going to offer the Pixhawk as an option with the Y6, instead of the APM?"

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Gerard Toonstra's blog post Photo stitching with visualsfm, cloudcompare and microsoft ICE
"Or you could just use AirPhotoSE:

http://www.uni-koeln.de/~al001/airphotose.html

Creates orthophotos and DEMs from multiple aerial photos, in conjunction with CloudCompare and ICE. And it's free."

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post Trappy's Counsel File Motion To Dismiss
"Yup. And it's stunts like this that the FAA will use as an excuse to shut down reasonable and legitimate drone uses. "

"What's the recommended battery type and capacity?"
Jul 13, 2013
Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Joshua Ott's blog post New 3DR Products: Y6, X8, FPV kit, and APM 2.6
"The Y6 DIY kit looks very interesting, but unless I'm missing it, the product page doesn't have critical information like the frame weight and size, and clearance under the body. Without that, it's difficult to decide whether this is a good choice…"

Leszek Pawlowicz replied to Kylie Hoffman's discussion National Geographic Shoot
"You should check with the FAA before doing this. Flying a drone under any conditions or limitations for commercial purposes / business / compensation is a violation of current FAA regulations, even if it may be legal (opinions differ)."

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Matthew Beck's blog post FAA Grounds Local Aerial Photo Business
"If I were these guys, I would point the FAA to section 323 of the 2012 FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act:

SEC. 323. SPECIAL RULES FOR CERTAIN UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS.

(a) In General- Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this…"

"Stress safety - operating under FAA guidelines, away from people and buildings."

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Murat Piker's blog post check out Parrot's new drone
"Very few people will pay even $1500 for a SenseFly clone, much less the original at $20K, as long as the FAA says that you can't fly one of these and make money (or use them for research/non-profit/academic work, for that matter)."

Leszek Pawlowicz replied to Jason's discussion glue on props
"Blue locking compound is spec'ed as appropriate for bolts/screws >= 1/4" in diameter. If used for smaller bolts/screws, you may run into problems removing them unless you heat them up.…"

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Parrot AR.Drone gets longer battery life, GPS tracking (but not navigation)

Leszek Pawlowicz commented on John Moore's blog post BluTracker Long-Range Bluetooth Tracker on IndieGoGo
"Very limited Android support, since Bluetooth 4.0 isn't fully supported on most phones. If you could live with shorter range device (100 ft.), the original StickNFind is cheaper: http://www.indiegogo.com/sticknfind/x/1850056."
