"I always get a little confused with all the different spline names but I think we are using Cubic Hermite spline's. They only depend on the waypoints at each end of the segment and the velocity vector at each end of the segment."

"It's been a big problem for me with the DJI Phantom ESCs. It's impossible to get them to all start/stop spinning together at the same PWM threshold. Which makes it easy to flop over on takeoff or landing."

"Hi Chris, I've put an APM in the case of a Phantom 1 (see http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/arduphantom-apm-arducopter-in-a-dji-phantom-airframe), but Phantom 2 may be more difficult. The Phantom 1 ESCs can connect directly to the APM…"

"Thanks. A bit disappointed that the Spline in V3.2 isn't nearly as smooth as my original SplineNav 0.3, but hopefully the devs will refine it over time. "

"The latest release has spline segments in Auto mode, but they don't seem to work very well yet, so for now I would still suggest installing my SplineNav 0.3 from GitHub."

New SplineNav 0.3: Smoother Yaw, and Manual Yaw Override

Posted on October 30, 2013 at 4:30am 32 Comments

After a few months of hard work, SplineNav 0.3 is now ready to fly! This SplineNav release started with the goal of simply reducing the yaw jitter issues of SplineNav 0.2, but in the end it turned into a major rewrite of the code.

New Features:

  • Smoother Yaw: Updates x and y spline derivative calculations faster, in a separate loop, for a more precise yaw control. Uses a fast…

New SplineNav Version 0.2 on a 63 km/h Tour of Chinese Lotus Pond

I've now finished coding up SplineNav version 0.2. It's almost a complete rewrite from version 0.1. Besides flying smoother and using processor resources more efficiently, it now restricts maximum speed to prevent lag. For example, if you're flying fast into a strong headwind, then altitude may…
