Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

As an executive, I haven't been using all of the capabilities I once enjoyed and have been looking for something that involves elec engineering, mech eng, programming and looks like a whole lot of challenge and fun. This looks like this will fit the bill!

"Blaine,
One more thing.  What transmitter are you using?  The biggest factor to help me fly was to set my sticks to non-linear values.  I use a DX8 and am able to tone down the control commands via the radio.  If I didn't I would have exactly what…"

"Blain,
I never got to the point of changing the default PIDs with Arducopter.  I had other issues that took precedence over the finer things.  My problem was that I couldn't trust it, after it flew off into the wild blue yonder leaving me without…"

Dusty Starbucks commented on Hein du Plessis's blog post First aerial photography
"That is really nice.  Do you get near actual altitude measurements in the 3D model.  I am looking at applications that require +/- 1 meter or so clutter altitudes such as the buildings you show.  Nice work!"

"Yes, it should be a lot more solid.  Looks good too.  :)  I saw your video.  Double check that all of your motors are connected correctly.  By that I mean in the right order.  The one thing that I can think would cause what you are seeing is motor…"

"There were actually a few things that I had to modify.  I am not sure where you are starting from.  I had a jDrones hexacopter kit (full electronics).  Crashed that and it was toast from a mechanical standpoint.  Cheap piece of crap if you ask me. …"

"I had a similar problem with my quad.  I never went out of stabilize, though.  It was night and I hovered in the front yard for a while, then went straight up.  I pushed forward and everything seemed fine until I tried to pull back.  It never…"

Dusty Starbucks commented on Graham Dyer's blog post Amps, volts & watts comparison on quad with 4S & 3S batteries
"Not sure how that was calculated.  Back of the envelope I get 3s = 11.88 min, 4S = 9.90 min.  4S has more lift power, 3S has longer flight time at that weight, but as weight increases this will have a crossover and the 4S will get longer flight…"

Dusty Starbucks replied to Harrison's discussion Flying on 5 engines?
"I flew into the ground from 50 feet with 5 rotors, which ended badly (needless to say).  Hexas don't like 16% of the props missing.  My prop flew off, so based on my limited experience, I would expect the worst.  If you do fly, I would love to see…"

Dusty Starbucks replied to Kristian's discussion Lost prop mid flight
"Kristian,
I am in the same position.  If I can trust the bird, I can put a camera on it.  I had the same thing happen this weekend.  I am running a hexa and was running fine for about a half hour, then at about 60' alt, it flipped and went into the…"

Dusty Starbucks replied to Peter's discussion Next Frame. Hexa or X8???????
"I just built an XAircraft hexa.  You can see it here.
http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/back-in-the-air
I would think the hexa would be more stable than only 4 points of lift.
Couple of things-
First, the XAircraft hexa had a little shorter arms…"

"I find that the modes are difficult, on a good day, to find in the log file. I just write it out to a .kmz file and look at the modes in google earth. Much easier."

Dusty Starbucks replied to Maki's discussion Wierd Issues- User? Hardware? Software?
"Eric,
A similar thing happened to me when I upgraded. I ended up resetting and erasing all memory. I believe it is in CLI under the command 'setup'. Basically completely wiping the existing stuff on your board. Then I loaded from scratch and it was…"
