Jim replied to Brian Barrett's discussion PixHawk Compatible smart LED controller
"Hi Brian.  How far did you get with this project?  I've just found it. I'm flying some ws1812 LEDs on my quad, controlled by a nano, but I never got as far as reading mavlink messages (which was always my intention)  I'd be happy to give your code a…"

Hi Folks.I'm flying a 450 with APM2.6 running the latest (last, v.3.2.1) firmware.  In most scenarios the quad handles superbly, but I do suffer noticeable altitude loss *during* forward flight in Alt controlled modes (principally…

Jim replied to John's discussion How / Where do I start with MavLink?
"I'm really interested in this subject too.  I already have an arduino nano running a strip of WS8212 LEDs as navigation lights,  and my aim was always to read mode changes and failsafe's from the Mavlink stream to control the LEDs.  I never found an…"

Hi Folks,I've had a search on the forums, but i've not yet found anything.  Does anyone know of a Post-Flight telemetry analysis video overlay tool thing that can be used with Mavlink Data?  I'm specifically thinking of…

Hi Folks. Is there a simple guide for setting up a DX6i to allow for selection of more than a couple of modes?  I've seen reference to a page here on DIY drones which has been removed…

"I'm sorry to ask guys, I've been away from the scene for so long.. What's the difference between the APM1 2560 and the APM2.x in terms of capability and features?

"Chris, can you just clarify?  "3DR creates the hardware" That sounds like the hardware is not opensource, is that right? Are the schematics for the boards available and free for people to fab on their own (as ardiuno is?) or would that be an…"

Jim replied to Con's discussion Suitable plane in Europe in ArduPlane User Group
"+1 for the Multiplex Twinstar II, very easy to find both in your LHS and online, cheap, and can take a battering! Great for carrying loads if you do a simple brushless upgrade.

Jim commented on Chris Anderson's blog post ArduPlane home page
"Hey Guys.
Has anyone attempted to upgrade the chip on their APM1280 board to a ATMega2560 by hand soldering?  Are the boards the same other than the chip, or are there revisions to the PCB that make this direct chip replacement impossible?
I…"

Jim commented on Jim's blog post Alternative 868mHz transceiver for Europe
"@johann - wow, I didn't know 868 was banned in SA, I guess 2.4 is the only way to go if we are aiming for a common DIYd supported telemetryplatform outside of the US."

Jim commented on Jim's blog post Alternative 868mHz transceiver for Europe
"Martin, i'm just getting a bit fed up with digi, perhaps its time to look at their competition. 2.4ghz is never going to be the best solution for any of us, 868mHz is what we should be using to retain parity with our american cousins and free…"

Jim commented on Jim's blog post Alternative 868mHz transceiver for Europe
"I would assume that being a Digi 868 product, that still suffers from the firmware enforced 10% duty cycle.
