About Me:

I am flying a Trex 500L Dominator with 3DR pixhawk with an interest in aerial photography and FPV. Originally all I was after was an affordable RTL function on a helicopter for FPV use. I didn't like the idea of a flying lawnmower falling out of the sky if I found the thin line. But what started as an interest like most things, quickly grew into a monster and as a navigator by profession I'm naturally drawn to the surveying and map making possibilities also and exploring the potential uses for each function. Real estate photography, searching for missing persons, scrub fire fighting situational awareness and damage assessment, fire scene inflvestigation etc etc. Eventually I would like to set up an 800 for my end project. For now I'm having plenty of fun and still on a steep learning curve with the 500.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I am interested in traditional helicopters. What started as a fascination with the Immersiveness of FPV (the compromise against learning to fly a really one) and aerial photography and wanting an affordable bail out and RTL function has grown into a full blown interest in both autonomous and manual flight and the applications of which it can be used for.

"Magnus, thanks for your reply, after some more reading I had heard as such and APM doesn't seem to be the devil I thought it was, with much the same tuning and functions as mission planner and it's possible to get it running on a PI so this will be…"

"Hey Ya, I was wondering if you managed to figure anything out? Im looking at doing exactly the same thing, integrating a PI with Mission Planner into a hard brief case ground station. The other option I was thinking about is perhaps running droid or…"
