This is where we discuss all things related to the 3DR Arducopter Y-6, from Tuning, to issues, to mods.
Does anyone still build these? What's the state of affiars for DIY and coaxial hexacopter builds?
I've been fascinated with Y6 designs for years and have been wanting to craft my own but never had the finances to do so. FInally came into some extra cashflow and want to put it towards a drone. I just became FAA certified and have been doing this commercially as a side hustle in tourism. I currenlty have experience with DJI products. The allure of creating my own has always stuck though, as a fun side project. I've seen Y6 builds that are big enough to carry a DSLR and that's the direction I…

AutoTune results on my Y6 (it only affected the Stabilize Roll and Stabilize Pitch values). The process worked perfectly in a light breeze and I only had to "bring it back" twice during the procedure. If the weather clears up in the next few days I'm going to try an experiment: reset params to stock and run AutoTune again. I assume the results should be very similar, but you never know!
For what it's worth: my Y6 has always been a great and stable flyer, and it's even better after the AutoTune. I can FEEL the difference in handling... good job firmware team!
@wessie: do you think the difference in our results is because of differences in our builds, like CG and load?
Autotune Results of My Arducopter Y6. works like a charm, with brilliant results.
Hi my Name ist Carsten and im building an heavylift y6 copter based on arducopter board. I have setup a detailed bulidblog and documentation (sorry, its only in in german)... its a work in progress thing, and i am looking forward to finish it in the upcoming months...
@Jason - it seems like only yesterday someone asked the same thing :)
Has anyone mounted a gimbal to this y6? I really like the frame but would also like to add my tarot gimbal to it.
Has anyone seen any photos exposing the inside of the Y6 Power/ESC layer?
I really could have used some, so I've taken these in case anyone else is interested.
Just got my Y6 Up and flying.
Specs:
APM 2.6 w/RC Timer GPS Plus Mag.
RC Timer 2830/750kv
RC Timer CF 10x4.5 top
RC Timer CF 11x4.5 Bottom
Tunigy 4s 5000 Mah
LEDs and Servo Driven GoPro Gimbal.
Flies really smooth and i get around 10-15 min flight times. Looking to upgrade props to 12in on bottom and 11in on top for better efficiency.
It has taken me forever to get my PX4 working on my Y6. Thank God for DIY Drones and the support I've gotten. Finally got a chance to fly with 4S, PX4 and Gimbal. It all flies, barely. It takes close to 70% throttle to just hover. Going to do some more test flights to see how it handles. I may still have to upgrade to bigger motors.
The PX4 uses my DX8 Spektrum satellite receiver only and my 6 position flight modes can't reach the last flight mode. Signal maxs out at 1731 and the last flight mode needs over 1750. Not sure how to fix this? Also it makes me concerned about the range of my transmitter and receiver. Think I'll contact Spektrum support and ask them about the range of just the satellite receiver.
"Selfie" taken with my Y6 during a recent photography event. I had a GoPro mounted on the front taking a photo every second... it's been fun shooting familiar things from unique angles lately!
