Ben Norris replied to marc.kulhavy's discussion Crash due to uncommanded yaw - log file analysis needed
"I have had similar result after motor mount twisted in flight. Don't forget the whole arm can twist too.  I've found single tube arms to be such a pita, I won't use them anymore. Without a locking hole/groove at both ends you can't be confident not…"

Ben Norris commented on Hugues's blog post Easter chickens could care less about Hobbyking's carbon fiber tubes...
"The phrase is "the chicken couldn't care less" because if it could care less that means it must care by some amount!"

Ben Norris replied to Darius Jack's discussion Who is legally accountable in case of drone crash reported to FAA ? in ArduCopter User Group
"Well thats false because you can't disclaim legal liability so those terms are null and void.  This is much the same as owning a car.  The driver/pilot is responsible for maintenance and safe use but the manufacturer CAN be held responsible for…"

Ben Norris replied to RG's discussion Suggestion for drones for surveying very large areas in Agricultural UAVs
"Sounds like you are exagerating to make your own service sound better. He already doubled up the time to account for downtime. And also you keep ignoring the fact that operators can fly multiple drones at the same time and swap batteries/sd cards…"

Ben Norris replied to Richard Kennedy's discussion Nasty Props! in ArduCopter User Group
"If that happens it is because your propsize and motors are not properly matched, it has nothing to do with quality.  Using stronger props hides the error, it doesn't correct it."

Ben Norris replied to Richard Kennedy's discussion Nasty Props! in ArduCopter User Group
"Plastic props only break in midflight if your propsize/motor combination is wrong and you are spinning them too fast."

Ben Norris replied to Richard Kennedy's discussion Nasty Props! in ArduCopter User Group
"One good move would be to ban carbon props, they have very minor benefits but add significant danger."

Ben Norris replied to Richard Kennedy's discussion Nasty Props! in ArduCopter User Group
"The accident was not caused by an unsafe drone, it was caused by an unsafe pilot.Bumpers don't need to be mandatory. They don't protect from above which is the most common way a crashing drone hits a person. They add weight, catch the wind, can…"

Ben Norris replied to Ivan R's discussion another crash on auto land, mad, hit my car scratched it all up!
"If the GPS coords move there is no way to tell if they are accurate and valid or if the quad has moved. So some bad readings give a worse result than a failed gps with no lock."

Ben Norris commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Google Earth API: One more month to live
"Google maps arn't licenced for commercial use, so dubios position for both 3DR and professional operators who are not buying their mapping."

Ben Norris commented on Justin's blog post SkyFy Technologies Releases Inspection Copter In Canada with Stable 50x Optical Zoom
"You know microsoft used accelerometers for deblurring pics.  Might be possible to get steadier results by recording accelerometer readings and using in combination with a physical gimbal for digital stabilization in post processing?"

Ben Norris replied to Pavel's discussion Is it possible to cover APM with aluminum foil to minimize UHF noise interference? in ArduPlane User Group
"Pavels approach is terrible because he has measured interference from a set of things, guessed at the culprit (picking the wrong one) and then done no further test to confirm his guess. On top of that when people have pointed him at the right ones to…"

Ben Norris replied to Pavel's discussion Is it possible to cover APM with aluminum foil to minimize UHF noise interference? in ArduPlane User Group
"No, the fact is that some electronics give off RF interference but there is no sign that the APM gives off any significant amount.
What makes Pavel crazy is that he has done no test to identify the APM as a source whatsoever and yet still claims it…"

Ben Norris replied to Pavel's discussion Is it possible to cover APM with aluminum foil to minimize UHF noise interference? in ArduPlane User Group
"No. If you come up with a crazy theory it is up to you to find some evidence BEFORE you claim that it is actually happening.Or else it is a question and you can't argue with other people's experience that it does not occur."
