I'm a guy that loves to fly.
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I want to build my own a UAV to capture remote sensing data, specifically high resolution orthorectified aerial photography. I want a relatively cheap, easy and consistent method of collecting this data on a regular frequency. I want to do this legally and i want my efforts to facilitate the efforts of other members of this community. i hope to learn and help others along the way.

Drone set up / Goals / Current Status

Posted on October 18, 2012 at 8:00am 2 Comments

Goal: Autonomous / semi-autonomous aerial mapping for creating georectified orthogonal imagery and eventually digital surface/elevation/terrain models (DEM, DTM). I'm in preliminary stages... though I believe that my POC is proven and so currently in testing and then on to my intended pilot…

Hey man,

I'm interested in purchasing an Arduplane w/ a U-Blox gps, and a 915 Mhz telemetry kit.  I want to fly over an area and take a series of pictures.

Best case scenario:

I would like my set up to be able to...

  1. Have ground control software to autonomously fly over predetermined path throughout a 160 acre corn field. (graphing)
  2. Using a Canon PowerShot A4000 IS, take a series of pictures over this field every 2-5 seconds and be georeferenced.
  3. Use the series of photos and have software autonomously stitch the images together to give me one semi-seamless photo.
  4. Finally produce color, IR, and NDVI images from my stitched photo.

Any input on what plane, camera (if A4000 wont  be applicable), stitching software, etc I would need to pull this off.  Email me anytime if you like or on this site is fine.  drewschlumpf@gmail.com

Thanks!

Best,

Drew
