I decided to dedicate my efforts on the quad with the internal GPS.  Flash forward. After sitting on my bench for most of the winter. I sold the surplus module with external GPS on some auction site needless to say the guy said that it never would obtain lock.  I received the module back and the APM and mailed him the good working…See More

About Me:
Howdy I am a long time R/C Aviator that was out of the hobby for about 15 years. I became a volunteer fire fighter and after some near misses and frustration on wide area searches I had been thinking that a UAV would fit the bill
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I have been working on a Airborne Heli based FLIR system using off the shelf parts when another friend said that hey why don't you use Arduino to control it that led me here

Carl I too am a firefighter building one on my own budget. Here is a video I found on YouTube(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=893i9OQCz2I&feature=plcp) and was impressed at how stable it was next to the fire.

I have found the KK board to unstable for the type of application I am going use it in. I now use a APM 2.0 on a DJI frame with 11X4.7 Gemfan props. I started out using a KK board with X525 frame I spent more time picking up parts from all the crashes. I like the X525 frame but it is no longer flyable do to all the crashes. I just ordered a new X525 that I will setup like the DJI. I hope with the larger frame that this should give me more stability in high winds

Carl - if you do decide to work on quad flying skills, and are looking for a prebuilt, the tiny qr ladybird is an inexpensive tough little quad, good for learning.
