NPR piece on DIY Drones

Last month Chris and I were interviewed by Carrie Kahn from NPR West regarding drone use.

The report is unfortunately a bit of an anti climax (see link). I really tried very hard to present our community as progressive, safety aware innovators and the main theme of the…

Old Flying Wing UAV prototype?

Can anybody shed any light on this flying wing? Came across it at our local airfield in a hangar and am tempted to see if the owner would part with it.

wayp.txt
this is my way point file , it is laoded into a single array in the EEPROM during program down load i can then access the data by refering to its position in the array lets call the array "way_point"
ie .... x = way_pont(1,1)
would read you the first lat,
y = way_point(2,1)
would load the first lon,
ect..

We were using the UAV Flight Systems' AP-50. That thing flies completely on PID loops. It was a very good autopilot. marketing doomed the company though.

Howdy

Thanks for the links and the advice!, big help! Resolution isn't so much of an issue really. I just need to be able to pick out people from deer, cattle and the occasional irate badger. "Irate badger" seems a bit redundant now that I think about it. Anyway, thanks again.

Hi Condor,

At this stage we haven't decided on an AP, we have just started test flying the aircraft under manual control until we are happy with the design. This aircraft was built and designed by myself.

@Condor,
I know you changed your avatar to protest the fact that only Australia and Canada seem to give UAVs the respect they deserve, but I worry that Canada will soon fall in goosestep (sic) with the US with their paranoid, retrictive climate.

Condor,
Thank-you for the inquiry.
The object in question is an off-the-shelf Police Radar Unit

Condor,
Thank-you for the interest. I have not posted anything on my Sites at this time. The airframes are still under development. The 16 foot wing you see is undergoing cost-reduction evaluation. The plan is to offer a low-cost reconfigurable airframe which could be configured in the field to suit the mission.

Yes, the 2028 looks really great but ouch !! will have to find a way to have it funded as equipment for a project ;-)

Hi Condor - the answer is "neither". AttoPilot uses a special design XY and Z horizon sensor, and the raw data is used directly by AttoPiot. I have a royalty agreement with FMA as my usage falls under their patent.
