I replaced a failing NTM 26-28a motor on the front starboard side.. better flights now! Does anyone have any ideas onhow to make a good foam or rubber based landing gear to absorb shock ?

One thing about Chinese motors.  They are cheap and you can build a prototype quickly, but the Chinese can't make ball bearings to save themselves!   After 13 flights I had a motor fail.  I ordered…Continue

I just mounted my SK450 frame on a XproHeli landing gear platform with camera mount.  I'm going to make a wight that weighs as much as a gopro, mount it and test.  I figured I should see if I crash…Continue

"Sorry I have an APM 2.0 board, GPS and magnetometer are on the same board.   The magnetometer is mounted on the APM 2.5 board right ?   Rotate the orientation of the APM board.  That should fix simple mode. "

"Regarding simple mode, I think your GPS orientation is reverse of what it should be.  I bet the back of your GPS is facing the front of your quad.   That's what makes sense to me."

"Nice ideas John! A roll cage for the camera is essentially what you are making. In your case, the larger balls will be just fine. I would be a bit concerned about busting a zip tie in the event of a severe landing but.. another way to look at them…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I've been building robots and devices with embedded controllers as a hobby for a few years now. I've built a snellflight quadcopte, added night lighting, video cam, and soon a laser that will get triggered from my momentary toggle switch on channel 6.

I finally got my APM 2.0 board! Parts to build a largeer quadpod with 4 30A ESC and motors that need it :)
I think I'll need at least a 3200ma 3cell Lipo for a 20 minute flight. Once this baby is flying I'll start saving for a gopro hd cam.
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I've built gadgets that use embedded controllers for a while. I think the hobby UAV is pretty cool, and the fact that there's an open resource that we can can use and contribute to is awesome! I'm hoping to build a quadpod heavy lifter, when I finally get a trunigy 9 channel radio I'll add a remote claw to the APM 2.0 to grab, lift, and place objects. I'm also looking forward to building a marine uav with my sons.
