World’s Largest Valentine Heart with Dedication (for asena21)

Posted on February 14, 2013 at 7:30am 11 Comments

Take a look at asena21.pl

Valentine Heart with dedication has been crafted on the sky using autonomous UAV.

Well beyond visual range, below frost point, in dense fog. Somehow it worked, over wast swamps near Wrocław, Poland (pronounciation: WrocLove).

The webpage looks like a quick mash-up but it's there. 4x3km, at 300m AGL.

A movie will come a few days later.…

Converting antennas between different XBEE PCB styles.

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 4:08am 2 Comments

Hi,

I was able to obtain certain number of XBEE PRO modules at 50mW with wire antenna, no chance to get them with SMA antenna. However I would like to solder a specific connector. Unfortunately, the PCB layout is different:

Type A is for SMA, uFL and WIRE

Type B is for Small PCB patch antenna,…

In the picture i'm using my first setup. Motor is some cheap china outrunner (1750kv) and Varioprop adjustable three blade hub with 5.8" long D blades. Blade angle was setup to deepest settings. This setup was no good.

I'm currently running my heavy AP Easy Star with Hobbycity products. Motor is HXT 2835 (380S) 2200kv Brushless Inrunner and prop is JM 6x4. This setup takes about 20A on 3S LiPo with full throttle and it is very powerfull combination. Motor weight is 110g. It's quite heavy but packs plenty of power. I can recommend this setup. I have two setup's and they work fine.

Hi Krzysztof,

I have a new one coming up in about a month or so hopefully if I can pull myself away from here and finish the board layout.

The new one will be a production level board. It will have the same and better features as this one including 2 video channels and a 3D graphics engine among other things but best of all it will cost much less to build making it cost effective to resale.

The current version is a little pricy to build because it was designed to have everything I might need onboard for initial software design ideas and testing.

Now all I need to do is find a 3D graphics programmer to help us come up with some really cool hi-tech augmented flight instrumentation features to take advantage of the new 3D engine especially for Helicopters and Quadcopters which have a tendency of leaving you not knowing what they are doing when not flying straight ahead.

Anyway we are supposed to have the new boards done in early April. Then there will be some software porting of existing software. We will release boards then while we start working on new display designs.

Thank you for your comments and interest. Stay in touch and have a great week…

Regards
Rick

Hi,

Thanks for the web site links - impressive airplane work.  I've been exploring the limitations of the MQ-9 2.5m platform and decided to learn from your criticism of its inherent limitations.  A redesign rather than a scale clone is called for, particularly, one in depth suited for specific application or a multi-function role.

Is there a resource analogous to "The Art of Electronics" (where essential design math is condensed to useful quick tools and concepts) in aerodynamic design you may suggest?

Cheers,

John

Just a follow up, I found some clear useful technical explanations on university aeronautical engineering course sites.

Hi Krystoff,

Aside from "Theory of Wing Sections" Abbott & Von Doenhoff, I came across "Model Aircraft Aerodynamics" by Martin Simmons and found both useful resources for understanding airfoils and structures.  Prandtl's works are really in depth but take longer to apply.
