Emile L. commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post DJI to release mandatory firmware update
"This is one Transport Canada's requirements."Don’t fly: Closer than 150 meters from people, animals, buildings, structures, or vehicles." Is it only time before they program this requirement as well?"

I used a Merlin/Orion telescope head through a Bluetooth/Rs232 to a laptop running Papywizard. Then through PTGUI to create the image. All great fun... Doing it with my Hex put a new twist in the process. Look forward to trying this feature…"

"$Phill
After the tripod and compass i modified a motorized telescope mount to perform the shots automatically. With a 50mm on a DSLR you ended up with one huge picture."

I have been doing it also for some time, all manual during s loiter hold but basically the same process.
I use a Gopro and only need 2 photos at 90deg yaw increments. I like turning them into these Little Worlds but the photos can be unfolded…"

Emile L. commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post New FAA TFR prohibits model aircraft/RPAS flight within 3nm of large sporting events
"A NOTAM is filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of any hazards en route or at a specific location. The authority in turn provides a means of disseminating relevant NOTAMs to aircraft pilots.
What non-pilot (hobby flying…"

Emile L. commented on LHardy's blog post Flying an Unmanned Aircraft - Transport Canada
"I know what you mean. We were just audited by Transport for our EASA (European authority) certification. The current international document was signed in April 2014 and is still not up on Transport's site but was up on EASA's site with the required…"

Emile L. commented on LHardy's blog post Flying an Unmanned Aircraft - Transport Canada
"Yes if they want they could lower it again...
When Transport hosted the regulations you could see when 602.45 was created or modified. I would bet that the original date of that reg is when we were only flying radio controlled aircraft line of sight…"

Emile L. commented on LHardy's blog post Flying an Unmanned Aircraft - Transport Canada
"Rob
So when we search the CARS regulations (now hosted by the Justice Department) I can see how they put it together.
For me I am only a hobbyist.
101.01(1) defines my 3Kg hex as a "model aircraft" not a UAV
102.01(c) removes my hex to from all…"

Emile L. commented on LHardy's blog post Flying an Unmanned Aircraft - Transport Canada
"Again I see guidelines not based on regulatory references? Similar to the FAA Transport creates regulations through the publication of what they would like to have us do. I thought we had a parliamentary system to create rules for the population,…"

Emile L. commented on Emile L.'s blog post One year in 5 minuets
"Hi Martin
How about this, did a loiter hold in the same spot then merged the 2 pictures (6 shots for each world), not a video but looks neat. Great idea with a flightpath will have to look into that. over the seasons."

Hello DIY Drone world....Well it's been about a year since my last blog (http://www.diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/quading-vacation-no-wheels-...). I built a new quad in the spring (photos attached) It has been a struggle but I have it flying…

Emile L. commented on Eric Tweet's blog post Criminalizing Drones in Oregon
"If the Bill is to control privacy issues then the location of the camera is irrelevant. The higher up you go the more powerful a camera you can use.  Just look at Google Earth!
I think they are scared of where the the hobby/industry can go. By…"

Emile L. commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Crash test
"@ Randy correct me if I am wrong but I would think it is moving the nav way point in the direction of command related to the magnetic heading. The commands during FPV to fly south caused the way point to move west from the compass error. This type…"

Emile L. commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Crash test
"Nice. The ferrites only reduce ac type noise. The high amp DC lines in close proximity to the magnetometer could induce an error related to the current flow. But I think the root cause is related to the compass error."

Emile L. commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Crash test
"I have had many issues with the compass calibration procedure in the past. I always test the cardinal points(0,90,180,270) on the bench after calibration. It is very important you rotate around the axes of the magnetometer as the magnetic field a…"

Emile L. commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Crash test
"OK I was just looking at the log playback vs the FPV video. Looks like a large compass error. as you cross the road in loiter the log indicates a heading of 293 after the slight yaw turn. The FPV video shows you looking between the roads that should…"
