About

About Me:

I'm a newcomer to the world of UAVs and quadcopters.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I wish to start off building a FPV quadcopter then going on to an actual UAV (most likely gas powered).

Tian commented on Jason Hilton's blog post StabilGo Camera Gimbal
"That patent brings an interesting perspective to brushless gimbals, especially for those companies that profit off of selling them. As for the kickstarter, it is a complete ripoff even if the product is good."

Tian commented on Paul's blog post Quad loses half a propeller mid flight
"Wow, it's amazing how the flight controller still kept in the air and that you landed it almost perfectly."

Tian commented on vis.asta's blog post quadrocopter ultra-long flight (141min)
"I'm speechless. I can't even comprehend how this is possible with the products that are currently on the market."

Tian commented on Max Bruner's blog post Sub-$300 quadrotor kit released on Kickstarter
"It is quite amazing how quickly this went onto the market from the day you made that first post. At the current rate, you guys will be funded within another day or two. The controller is quite an interesting design. Very few people are going into…"

Tian commented on Jamie Ahmed's blog post Let's talk about Inertial Dead Reckoning!
"If I remember correctly, the drift problem is already solved (but not completely eliminated). UPenn uses inertial measurements to do indoor mapping with a Kinect.
I think this should work, assuming that you can get accurate X, Y, and Z measurements…"

Tian commented on Andreas M. Antonopoulos's blog post Interior Mapping Quad, like in the drones from the movie Prometheus
"i saw a small demonstration of it just yesterday at upenn. I will try to post some pictures i took of their lab when i get onto a computer"

Tian commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Arduino projects for RC cars
"Wow, this sounds pretty advanced. It is like traction control and stability management for RC cars. Real cars started having traction control as standard equipment only in the reason years, and only the higher end cars (especially ones by Germany…"

Tian commented on Gareth Rens's blog post Worlds smallest One-man Helicopter
"I've seen this quite a while back. This is really awesome. It's like a jet pack without extremely flamable fuel strapped onto your back. Instead, there is a high speed rotor on top of you.
Worst that can happen is that it stalls mid air and you fall…"

Tian commented on Muthanna Alwahash's blog post Researchers use GPS spoofing to 'hack' into a flying drone
"In reality, the hacking will be way much more complicated due to encryption and etc.
Also, I posted this about a week ago:http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/drones-vulnerable-to-terrorist-..."

Tian commented on Max Levine's blog post Now we know why NASA projects are so expensive :)
"wow this was mind blowing. who would've thought that it will take so much to land a mars rover"

Tian commented on Tian's blog post Drones vulnerable to terrorist hijacking, researchers say
"It is quite true that this is to bring up fear in the audience (especially since it is from fox news), but we can't help but imagine that this becomes very easily achievable in 5-10 years. If you think about it, over 10 years ago, not very many…"

Tian posted a blog post
“Spoofing a GPS receiver on a UAV is just another way of hijacking a plane,” Humphreys told Fox News.In other words, with the right equipment, anyone can take control of a GPS-guided drone and make it do anything they want it to.“Spoofing” is a…

Tian commented on Mike de Landgraaf's blog post Motormount to prevent resonance
"well, it should be fairly stable with 3 arms also. Try making the bars out of carbon fiber. They are light and extremely rigid. You can just buy premade carbon fiber square tubes. They are easy to work with in my opinion. Also make sure that your…"

Tian commented on Anish's blog post Raspberry Pi teams up with Arduplane
"Hey, looks like they finally did it.There was a discussion about a week ago about using the Raspberry Pi as a method of autopilot on DIY Drones.
I'm glad someone is attempting to harvest the processing power of the pi."

Tian replied to johnkowalsky's discussion Raspberry PI
"The problem with the Raspberry Pi (actually, with any embedded computing platform) is the latency, especially with Linux. Without any extensive software mods, the latency is just way too high to achieve any sort of effective stabilization. You might…"

Tian replied to Luc van Helfteren's discussion Power plant recommendation for my quadcopter build
"I would recommend this motor:http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6247__hexTronik_DT750_Br... the 11x4.7 props on 3DR store.
I had these motors before and they are quite powerful. I didn't use them for quad copters though. I was attempting…"
