About Me:

I'm a Network Engineer for F5 Networks (www.f5.com). Married, with two chizzles, and a dog who doesn't know how to stop eating. In the late 90's I was an aviation structural mechanic / hydraulics for the US Navy. I worked on rotary aircraft primarily, but also did work with fixed wing aircraft. In the early 2000's I left the Navy to seek out a career in Commercial diving. I dove pipe in the gulf, including search and recovery, Non destructive Testing, and just general hard work period. During the peak of an unfortunate sickness in the family, I moved back to Washington State where I worked security while preparing to go to school for my associates in video game design. Through my time in college, I ended up leaving security, doing misc jobs, usually involving welding, until I landed a contractor gig at a small reseller as a pre and post sales engineer. I later moved on to f5 networks as a Network Support engineer (Assisting other network engineers in the use of our product), and eventually into Product development to assist in the quality of th product before it goes out the door. I am familiar in BASH scripting, python, php, perl, javascript, and C. bash scripting and python are my strengths, while I've been brushing up on C for embedded systems (I wonder why) My ultimate goal in this hobby is to build a full autonomous UAV, for the air, and one for underwater.

"No, I've ended up going with the Arduino. I really dig it. I think if I'm going to be doing more robust tasks, I'd be better off getting an Operating System in the mix, and run the Arduino via USB for whatever I need.

The propeller offers a ton of…"

problah commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Is the Arduino platform better than the Basic Stamp for UAVs?
"The Arduino was the route I was thinking about using. I am also contemplating a python interface via gumstix, and realtime linux. We'll see how it goes, but for basic nav, the arduino should run just fine."

problah commented on Paul Gregory's blog post Building a UAV for photo mapping - Camera Selection
"Paul,

I agree with chris on setting continuous mode. I'm sure you will be making multiple runs, so as long as you grid out your nav points, and keep them constant, you should be able to overlay images captured in one run to the master image map…"

"I agree with chris on this one. The last few posts I've read where MacBoffin has posted anything have seemed very antagonistic towards the poster, and also reveals a distaste and stereotyping of UAV's as being used only for violent purposes.

The…"

problah replied to john the welder's discussion UAV law-International waters
"Those are pretty inventive ideas, and I wish you luck with those. International waters are just that. There is no set law defining what can happen in the area. The zone laws between aircraft and military vessels are covered under the Rules of…"

"Is this copilot receiver also your radio receiver? I would imagine you'd want the receiver to run motor control through the stamp, so when you flip the switch, the stamp can register, and take over flight controls (servo side, pulling from gps, and…"

problah replied to James Hall's discussion Learning the Propeller SPIN language
"James,
so far from what I can tell spin looks inline with a little bit of C, and python. I'm still going through it though, but that's what it looks like to me. It's wierd, but it shouldn't be too hard to pick up."

"I respect all of those rules, however I will not personally attest to the FAA guidelines, as I may surpass the 400 foot ceiling if feel it is necessary (Which I doubt it ever will be), and I am not in a high traffic area, nor are there any full size…"

"There you go. Great job so far! I dig the new look (especially the drones in grey and black). Hopefully you have some archiving functionality in case anything were to happen, you could bring it all back up in a few minutes/hours of notification?"
