Jason Franciosa commented on Xrotors.net's blog post Introducing AIrVator.
"Why do so many people want manned multirotors? This is the last thing I would ever want to get in. If there was ever an issue, there is no way to safely get to the ground short of a parachute. Not to mention its extremely inefficient compared with…"

The major constraint for effective use of UAS in agriculture is the time and complexity of data processing. With current solutions, it can take hours of processing or data upload just to visualize even a small area of a farm, research plot, or golf…

Jason Franciosa commented on Kristaps Brass's blog post Comparing Precision of Autopilots for Survey Missions - PX4
"How much of this is effected by the GPS used? The Phantom 4's dual band GPS can get close to 30 satellite locks at times which should increase it's precision considerably over a pixhawk with a UBLOX 7 series which struggles to get more than 12 sats."

Jason Franciosa commented on Hein du Plessis's blog post VTOL by Arkbird
"@rick, do you have a video of it in Full forward flight? The video shows hover mode, but, I'm curious to see how it flies when it's in Plane mode?

What's really cool about that design is it looks like you could transition to plane mode very quickly…"

Jason Franciosa commented on Hein du Plessis's blog post VTOL by Arkbird
"@Rob,

I think what he means by efficient is that it is a VTOL Fixed wing platform with the assumption being fixed wing flight is the most efficient means in comparison with other options. I like this setup/design and agree it minimizes the…"

"Could you simply put a Vertical Stabilizer in the front on top and bottom or a small CF rod through the nose so it if does tip over, it simply hits the Rod/Rudder will hit the ground and the plane will be perfectly fine?

Have it touch down on the…"

Jason Franciosa commented on JLJu's blog post Basic Air Data 8mm Pitot Tested in Wind Tunnel
"Fair point, I am hoping stall recovery is something arduplane will see soon as it is a very critical failure of arduplane at the moment. If a stall does happen, it's 100% crash rate once the plane goes nose down. I'm hoping this fatal state can be…"

Jason Franciosa commented on Olivier's blog post 2017 Ardupilot Un-Conference Talks and field demonstrations, Andrew Tridgell, Paul Riseborough
"With the ability for Arupilot to now understand multiple orientations and correct/fly in different realms. Does this mean a nose down stall recovery may be possible?

Nose down stalls with current arduplane firmware results in a crash every time,…"

Jason Franciosa commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Measuring airspeed without an airspeed sensor
"Very interesting! I have not heard of the AuraUAS Autopilot system, is it designed for APM2?

What I would really love to see is a low cost Angle of Attack sensor for sUAS Planes. Get rid of the airspeed sensors all together and just use AoA and…"

Jason Franciosa commented on Joe Renteria's blog post Helicopter Concept
"My main question is about efficiency. One of the main benefits of Helicopters and Planes over multirotors is they are much more efficient due to a single large rotating rotor, or, having wings and a single motor to create "thrust". If you are now…"
